Trento Knit Hat an Easy Knitting Pattern

Sharing is caring!

The Trento Hat is an easy knitting pattern in sizes for the family. Knits and purls in a simple four row repeat create this lovely texture.

This beanie knits up fairly quickly in worsted weight yarn. I love how the solid color and texture work up.

Even with this darker purple yarn, the stitches still pop.

The texture on this knit hat looks great even in darker colors.

Yarn

This hat knits up nicely in Lion Brand’s Basic Stitch, a #4 medium worsted weight yarn. Since I knit it in my daughter’s size having a wearable yarn is a must.

When we take time to hand make our knits we want our loved ones to wear them. This acrylic, anti-pilling yarn makes it easy to keep them looking great too.

I love that the Basic Stitch comes in such a wide variety of colors. They also have a Basic Stitch Premium yarn in this line.

Stitch

I love knitting. The repetition is so soothing to me. The Trento Hat is knit with basic knits and purls.

There is a 4 row repeat that gives us that texture we crave. And it’s simple enough to memorize.

Construction

This hat is worked bottom up in the round. We’ll start with a basic rib stitch for the brim. The body of the hat is 4 rnd repeat. To close up the top we’ll do two rounds of decreases and finish off by threading the tail through the remaining live stitches.

Fit/Adjustment

Negative Ease = 2”/5cm where hat ribbing is intentionally 2”/5cm smaller than head circumference and stretches to fit. To fit age (head circumference): toddler (18”/45.7cm), child (20”/50.8cm), teen/sm adult (21”/53.3cm), med/lg adult (22”/56cm)

I made this hat and love it. It is very warm. Now I need a scarf pattern that would go well with it. Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Hi! I'm so glad you're enjoying this pattern! I actually have a whole set in this stitch, I just haven't made time to write up the patterns. For a 6" wide scarf, with worsted weight yarn and 5mm needles you can cast on 22 sts and follow this pattern to get the same stitch pattern on a flat scarf: Co 22 = 6” wide scarf, or use a stitch multiple of 4, plus 2 more. Row 1. K2, p2, k2 Row 2. P2, k2, p2 Row 3. P2, k2, p2 Row 4. K2, P2, k2 Just repeat these four rows for 60" or the desired length of your scarf. I hope this helps! Crystal
