Flat Christmas Tree Crochet Pattern
Crochet up this easy Christmas Tree for tags to adorn your packages, or string a few on the mantle!
Materials
- #4 medium worsted weight yarn, 5 yd of green yarn and 1 yd of brown yarn in Red Heart Super Saver yarn.
Tools
- 5 mm hook size US H-8, or crochet hook to meet gauge.
- scissors
- tapestry needle
- measuring tape
Instructions
Pattern Notes
Ch 1 at the beginning of a row does not count as a stitch.
We'll start with the top of the tree and work our way down to the tree trunk.

hdc - half double crochet
sl st - slip stitch
st - stitch

2" / 5 cm x 2" / 5 cm = 7 hdc x 6 rows of hdc

Size
The finished dimensions of the Christmas Tree are approximately 5" / 12.5 cm tall with the trunk and 3.5" / 9 cmat it's widest.
Pattern
If you would like a hanging loop, start with a long tail. I suggest 12" / 30.5 cm and you can trim it to your liking. Other wise you can join yarn or twine to form a loop and hang it.
Row 1. Ch 2, place 2 hdc in the 2nd ch from your hook, turn. (2 sts)
Row 2. Ch 1, 2 hdc in the same stitch, 2 hdc in the next stitch, turn. (4 sts)
Row 3. Ch 1, hdc in same st, 2 hdc in each of next 2 sts, hdc in the last st, turn. (6 sts)
Row 4. Ch 1, hdc in each st across, turn. (6 sts)
Row 5. Ch 1, hdc in same st, 2 hdc in next st, hdc in each st until there are 2 sts left, 2 hdc in the next st, hdc in the last st, turn. (8 sts)
Row 6. Ch 1, hdc in each st across, turn. (8 sts)
Row 7. Rep Row 5. (10 sts)
Row 8. Rep Row 6. (10 sts)
Row 9. Rep Row 5. (12 sts)
Row 10. Rep Row 6. (12 sts) The triangle is approximately 4” / 10 cm tall.
Cut yarn.
Join brown yarn to 5th hdc.
Ch 1, hdc in 4 sts, turn.
Rep last row.
Cut yarn and weave in ends.
Notes
You can shorten or lengthen the pattern for different sizes.
