The Lito Beanie is an easy stockinette hat worked from the bottom up. The fun in knitting this beanie is watching the gorgeous variations in this yarn play out across the simple stockinette. Stay stylish while keeping you and your loved ones cozy!

Materials

• 53 – 133 yd Universal Yarn’s Bamboo Bloom Handpaints* a #5 bulky weight yarn (48% Rayon, 154 yd (140 m) per 10 g hank) in shade 334 Nami: 1 hank.
• 5.5 mm (US 9) 24+” circular needles*
• 6.5 mm (US 10.5) 24+” circular needles, or size needed to meet gauge.
• Yarn needle, measuring tape, scissors, stitch marker(s).

Baby 0 – 6 mos ~ 53 yd (49 m)

Baby 6 – 12 mos ~ 71 yd (65 m)

Toddler 1 – 3 yrs ~ 83 yd (76 m)

Child 4 – 10 yrs ~ 93 yd (85 m)

Teen/Sm Adult ~ 123 yd (113 m)

Med/Lg Adult ~ 133 yd (122 m)

Construction

Hat is worked bottom up, with 1×1 ribbing for the brim. Then stockinette stitch for the body of the hat. The top is worked with decreases to close.

Gauge

11 sts x 10 rows (after blocking) to 2” (5 cm) measured in St st using 6.5 mm (US 10.5) needles.

Sizing

To fit age ~ head circumferences:

Baby 0 – 6 mos ~ 15” (38 cm)

Baby 6 – 12 mos ~ 16” (40.5 cm)

Toddler 1 – 3 yrs ~ 18” (45.5 cm)

Child 4 – 10 yrs ~ 20” (51 cm)

Teen/Sm Adult ~ 22” (56 cm)

Med/Lg Adult ~ 24” (61 cm)

Fit/Adjustments

This hat has a suggested 2” (5 cm) of negative ease. This means the finished hat is 2” (5 cm) smaller than the actual head circumference, and will stretch to fit. This hat pattern is intended to fit like a beanie, for a slouchy hat you can keep knitting to increase the height at least 2″ before moving on.

Ribbing

Using smaller needles CO 56 [60, 64, 72, 80, 88] sts using long tail cast on, join to knit in the round.

Rnd 1. *K1, p1; rep from * around.

Rnds 2 – 10. Rep row 1 for 10 rows total or until ribbing is 2” (5 cm).

Change to larger needles.

Rnd 11. K all.

Rep rnd 11 until hat measures 5” [5, 5.5, 6, 6.5, 7] inches (12.5, [12.5, 14, 15, 16.5, 18] from cast on edge.

Decrease
