How To Knit A Simple Coffee Cup Cozy Knitting Pattern

Sharing is caring!

Learn how to knit a coffee cozy in this simple pattern. These sleeves make great gifts for a coffee or tea lover. Or choose your favorite colors and make a bunch for your coffee cups at home.

This cozy pattern uses only easy knitting techniques so it’s the perfect project for beginner knitters. A small project like a knit cup cozy is a wonderful first project too.

These cup cozies are a great way to use up small bits of yarn. I seem to have lots of leftover yarn so I love patterns that make great stash busters. With an easy pattern like this one you can mix and match colors for colorful cup sleeves.

I love how the garter stitch pairs beautifully with the variegated yarn, but of course a solid color would look good too.

Pattern Snapshot

LEVEL: Beginner to Easy
YARN: #4 medium weight cotton yarn
HOOK: 5mm US Size H-8 crochet hook
WOULD I MAKE THIS AGAIN? Absolutely.

I used cotton yarn so these coffee cozies work for a hot beverage or a cold beverage. The cotton will absorb the condensation on your iced coffees in the warm months.

Fit/Adjustments

This pattern has a suggested 1/2” (1 cm) of negative ease. This means the finished cozy is smaller than the actual cup circumference, and will stretch to fit.

To knit a different size you can cast on any number of stitches to fit your cup. Likewise, you can knit to different lengths by repeating more or less rows.
