Materials

Instructions

  1. Ch 205 = 60”

    Row 1. 5 dc in 6th ch (first 3 chs count as a dc), *{sk 3 chs, 5 dc in next ch} rep from * until 3 chs are left, sk 2 chs and dc in the last ch, turn. (50 sets of shells + 2 dc = 252 sts)
  2. Row 2. Ch 3, sk 2 sts, (dc, ch 3, dc) all in next st, *{sk 4 sts, (dc, ch 3, dc) all in next st} rep from * until 3 sts are left, sk 2 sts, dc in last st, turn.
  3. Row 3. Ch 4 (counts as dc + ch 1), sk 1 st, 3 dc in ch 3 sp, *{ch 2, sk 2 sts, 3 dc in ch 3 sp} rep from * until 2 sts are left, ch 1, sk 1 st, dc in last st, turn.
  4. Row 4. Ch 3, sk 2 sts, (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) all in next st, *{sk 4 sts, (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) all in next st}, rep from * until 3 sts are left, sk 2 sts, dc in last st, turn.
  5. Row 5. Ch 3, sk 2 sts, 5 dc in next ch 1 sp, *{sk 4 sts, 5 dc in next ch 1 sp}, rep from * until 3 sts are left, sk 2 sts, dc in last st, turn.
  6. Rep rows 2-5 until you have eight reps total = 33 rows = 20.5” tall laid flat, unstretched unblocked. Progress of crochet shawl in purple yarn with streamline hook. If you change the number of reps, stop after a repeat row 5.
    Border
    5 dc = shell
  7. Since this is a lacy shell shawl, I opted not to add a single crochet border first. You can add one if you wish, but I've included pictures below to help with stitch placement.

  8. Continue from last row, turn corner and place 5 dc in side of same row, *sk next row place 5 dc in side of next row, rep * to next corner.Green needle pointing where to start next shell stitch on shawl border.

  9. Now you’ll be working on the other side of the starting chain: Turn corner and place 5 dc in first ch, Shell stitch in corner and turn to continue on other edge.
  10. *sk the ch that has the 5 dc from row 1 worked into it, and place 5 dc into middle ch between row 1 shells. Rep from * across to next corner.
  11. Work up this side as in step 1, sl st to first dc to join the border round.
  12. Cut yarn and weave in ends.Finished crochet shawl in purple on mannequin in corner of room with cream curtain and medium wood floor.

    To make a shorter length shawl you need a stitch multiple of 4, plus 1 more. You can also subtract from my starting chain of 205 in 4s.
    I hope this helps.
