How To Crochet A Triangular Shawl Crochet Pattern
The Lilla works up beautifully in luxurious cotton yarn. The top down design creates a pattern that’s easy to customize to scarf size or full size shawl.
The basic crochet stitches combine to create an easy crochet pattern that is a three row repeat. The open mesh stitch helps create a lovely drape that works styled in the front or over your shoulders.
I chose to create large blocks of light colors for this shawl. However, the Lilla is the perfect project for either a solid color or a self striping yarn.

Can I substitute yarns?
You can use any #4 medium worsted weight yarn. A cotton yarn will be most comparable to the shawl in the picture.
The natural fibers of a cotton yarn are more breathable. This is a great option if you plan to use your shawl for warmer weather. Plus the natural fibers block beautifully.
I am also a fan of Lion Brand’s 24/7 cotton yarn*. It has a gorgeous sheen to it that reminds of the Berroco Weekend Yarn*. It also comes in so many amazing colors.
The Lilla Shawl does need blocking to achieve the proper shape. Not to worry, I’ve included photos and instructions for blocking at the end of this pattern.

Materials
- 650 yds #4 med worsted weight yarn, I used I hank each of Berocco Weekend Cotton* in Seedling (Color A), Lavender (Color B), & Pebble (Color C) For a larger shawl than the small shawl pictured you’ll need approximately 216-650 more yards of yarn.
- 5mm US-H/8 hook*
- Yarn needle
- Measuring tape
- Scissors
Notes
-Ch 3 counts as a stitch, I highly recommend using a ch 3 alternative, here’s my favorite.
Stitches/Abbreviations (US Terms)
ch(s) – chain(s)
dc – double crochet
Mb – mini bean -insert your hook into the stitch to be worked, yo and pull up a loop (2 loops on your hook), yo (3 loops on your hook) insert your hook back into the same st, yo and pull up a loop (4 loops on your hook), yo and pull through all 4 loops on your hook.
sl st – slip stitch
sc – single crochet
st(s) – stitch(es)
rep – repeat
sk – skip the indicated stitch
V-stitch: double crochet, chain 1, double crochet in same stitch
yo – yarn over

This simple pattern is easy enough for an advanced beginner. A newer crochet who is willing to learn new stitches can make this pattern.
The mini bean stitch is the only special stitch included. The repeat is easy enough for beginners, but it’s also a great project for an experienced crocheter.

After blocking, shawl measures 24″/61cm deep, 54″/137cm wide

How to Crochet an Easy Triangle Shawl Pattern
The Lilla Shawl is a free, beginner crochet pattern. It’s an easy lightweight crochet triangle shawl perfect for spring and summer.

Begin with a mc, or ch 3 and sl st to first ch to form a circle.

How to Keep Increasing
For a larger shawl continue to rep these 3 rows until desired length. It may help to mark your center st with a st marker.

Finishing
Ch 1, sc in same st and each st to center, (sc, ch 1, sc) in center ch sp, sc in each st to end.
Weave in ends. Block your shawl.
Blocking
Watch a little time lapse video of how I blocked the Berryessa Scarf! It’s a really simple process. I use steam blocking in this video.
Since this one is cotton and washable, I washed it on a gentle cycle and laid it out on my blocking mats.
Using my hands, I smoothed it into shape. I pinned along the edges to keep it in place. 
Then I let it dry. Eccola!
