Textured Stripes Top Down Triangle Shawl Pattern

Sharing is caring!

The Gemma is everything I love about crochet in a triangular shawl pattern. Texture, color, simple stitches and an easy repeat.

Crochet doesn’t have to be complicated to be beautiful. I love the elegance that simplicity lends a pattern. And this is just what I was striving for in this top down triangle shawl.

Plus when spring is marching in you want to crochet a fun project that works for warm weather too. And I think this shawl does just that!

Yarn

For this winter to spring sample shawl I chose 4 different colors in Lion Brand’s 24/7 cotton yarn. You can substitute a different yarn if you like, but choose a comparable #4 medium worsted weight yarn.

It doesn’t have to be cotton yarn. And you can even choose a self striping yarn so it does the colorful stripes for you. Plus when spring is marching in you want to crochet a fun project that works for warm weather too. And I think this shawl does just that!

I love the saturated colors available in this yarn. These jewel tones are just my favorite! An easy way to customize the look of yours is by choosing your favorites, whether that’s contrasting colors, or even a solid.

More details about the yarn colors and amounts below.

I find that an easy pattern like this is a great way to showcase textured stitches and lots of color. This one features all the basic crochet stitches: single crochet, half double crochet, and double crochet stitches.

Materials

  • 1116 yd Lion Brand 24/7 cotton yarn* a #4 medium worsted weight yarn (100% Mercerized Cotton, 186 yd (170 m) per 100 g skein) in shades Jade [2], Dragonfly [2], Taupe [1], Rose [1] skeins.
  • 5 mm US size H–8 crochet hook,* or size needed to meet gauge.
  • Yarn needle, measuring tape, scissors, stitch marker(s).

Notes

  1. Please read through all notes and pattern before you begin.
  2. Ch 3 counts as a st, I recommend a ch 3 alternative like this one.
  3. Ch 1 to begin rows does not count as a stitch.
  4. Once you get to the repeat rows the main stitch of each row is in parenthesis at the end of each line for quick reference.
  5. You will work 2 repeats in one color pattern and then 2 repeats in another color pattern.

14 sts x 9 rows (after blocking) to 4” (10 cm) measured in hdc.

Crochet triangle shawls are popular with crocheters so I knew I wanted to combine some of my favorite elements in one crochet shawl pattern. The triangle shape means it’s easy to customize yours to just the right size. Since we’re moving into warmer weather a shawl is the perfect project to work on.
