Mini Puff Stitch Crochet Tutorial
Learn how to crochet a miniature version of a puff stitch. These little stitches create a subtle crochet texture.
Bobbles, puffs, popcorns are all popular crochet stitches for creating eye catching fabrics. But sometimes we just want a little texture, that’s not overwhelming.
When designing this crochet bowtie I wanted something cute, and fun for boys. I started with the puff stitch, but it was just too much for a such a little project.
Adding a smaller version of the puff stitch was the answer. For the bowtie I alternate single crochet stitches and rows with the mini puff.

I like this stitch so much. I use it in my the Pebbled Heart Beanie, which is a sweet make for Valentine’s Day.
Yarn
The yarn for this tutorial is #4 medium worsted weight. I used Hobby Lobby’s Yarn Bee Soft Secret in Denim.
You can use any yarn for this stitch. The different yarn weights will yield a different size puff stitch.
Stitch
While I first started with a regular puff stitch, and then modified it to be smaller, the result is very similar to the mini bean stitch. I don’t use the ch 1 for this stitch so it works up differently.
This is one of my favorite texture stitches. The Pebbled Beanie features this stitch in the round.
