The Lontano is perfect for baby hats or when you’re looking for a simple unisex beanie pattern! With so many different sizes you can make this for anyone.
Sizes
The sample is a child beanie, but the crochet pattern is available in baby sizes starting with 0-3 mos through toddler, child, teens and large adult size. So you can crochet this simple beanie for the whole family.
Yarn
This crochet beanie pattern is made with #4 medium weight yarn. The child beanie uses Red Heart With Love Yarn. You can substitute other worsted weight yarns.
For the best fit, be sure to check your gauge.

How It’s Made
This is a bottom up crochet beanie. You can get a full tutorial on how start a bottom up hat in this post.
The brim is worked flat using crochet ribbing. The hat body is worked along one edge of the brim in the round. Decreases are spread evenly over the last few rows and the hole sewn closed.

You can tell how fitted the Lontano Beanie is here too. The decrease rounds start pretty early in the hat pattern. They’re staggered over several rounds to create that gentle slope that fits so well.
For the solid crochet beanie I used the sc2tog for the decreases. If you choose to crochet this bottom up hat with contrasting stripes (like the blue and stone one pictured) I would recommend using the invisible decrease technique to keep the single crochet stitches looking the same.

Free Crochet Hat Patterns
The Autumn Crunch is a free pattern for a slouchy hat that includes all the sizes.
If you’re looking for a chunky beanie this basic half double crochet has you covered. This one starts with a magic circle and is crocheted top down.
Another crochet beanie made with chunky yarn is the Tuscan Charm hat. I love the colors in Lion Brand’s Hue + Me yarn*.
Browse my hats and beanies that are free crochet patterns. Crochet hats are easy crochet patterns and make great gifts! The Lontano is an easy project to keep your hands busy.

Easy crochet beanies may be simple, but adding the details takes them to the next level. Add a faux fur pom pom to the top of the hat for an upscale look.
Materials
- 100-225 yds #4 med worsted weight yarn, I used Red Heart with Love* in Stone & Cameo & Peacock
- 6mm hook size J-10, pictured in peach Odyssey*.
- Yarn needle, Measuring tape, Scissors
- Optionally add a fur pom or your own diy yarn pom pom to top it off!
Notes
- Ch 1 does not count as a st.
- Brim is worked flat, seamed into a circle and hat is worked on top of one long edge of the brim, in the round.
- Ch 3 counts as a stitch, I highly recommend using a ch 3 alternative, here’s my favorite.
- Use the inv dec technique described under Stitches for contrasting colors.
