What should you do with a crochet snowflake?

My first thought for this crochet snowflakes is to appliqué it onto my son’s Lontano Beanie. It’s made with a light blue yarn that would look beautiful with this snowflake.

But, now I’m thinking I will crochet several of these (or design more) to decorate. A crochet snowflake banner would be lovely across the mantel. It would be easy to join them with twine or a crochet chain.

After you crochet this sparkly snowflake add a loop. Then hang it on your tree. Finally, an ornament my kids won’t break.

Pretty soon we’ll all be wrapping gifts. Adding a crochet snowflake to your gift wrapping gives it that handmade touch.

What other ways would you use this easy crochet snowflake pattern?

Yarn

For this crochet snowflake pattern I use Loops n Threads Impeccable Glitter. The color is Ice Queen White. It has blue and red glitter threads.

This yarn is perfect for a crochet snowflake. However, I can’t seem to find it anymore. But Mary Maxim has a similar yarn with gold glitter thread that would work well!

There are plenty of yarn with glitter and shiny threads these days. What yarn would you use to crochet this snowflake?

Stitch

This snowflake starts with double crochets in the center. Then we’ll use a series of chains, slip stitches and single crochets to add the points of the flake.

You will work in the round to crochet the sparkle snowflake pattern. Join each round with a slip stitch and continue in the same direction.

Materials

  • any #4 medium worsted weight yarn, pictured is Loops and Threads Impeccable Glitter in Ice Queen White. I used the little ball I had left from the Modern Striped Crochet Blanket.
  • 6mm US size J/10 crochet hook, pictured is my Furls Streamline Swirl in Cherry* I love the comfort and glide of these hooks. And they’re beautiful too, of course.

Stitches/Abbreviations (US Terms)

Gauge

Rnd 1=1.75”/4.5cm diameter

Level

Easy

Construction

The snowflake is worked in the round. This means you will join the last stitch to the first with a slip stitch. On the next round you will continue in the same direction.

Size/Adjustment

5” diameter measured from tip to tip.

I used a 6mm hook and worsted weight yarn. If you use a smaller hook you can get a smaller snowflake. 4mm-6mm crochet hooks work well with worsted weight yarn.
