LEVEL: Beginner to Easy
YARN: #4 medium weight cotton yarn
HOOK: 5mm US Size H-8 crochet hook
WOULD I MAKE THIS AGAIN? Absolutely.

Crocheting little scrubbies is so much fun, but washing dishes with them? I’m not so sure!

But if you’re ready to ditch the kitchen sponge and make a bunch of your own then this simple scrubbie pattern may be your new project. It’s easier to toss them in the washing machine when you have a lot of them too.

The Red Heart scrubby yarn is perfect for these, and gives them added scrubbing power. But this yarn can be tough to work with, and hard to see your stitches. So if this is your first crochet project ever, then I would stick with regular cotton yarn for now, and try this yarn next time.

Materials

  • #4 medium worsted weight cotton yarn, preferably 100% cotton! I’m using Dishie yarn* in shade: mint. Each scrubby uses about 15 yds of yarn.
  • 5 mm crochet hook (US Size H-8). Here I’m using my Furls Moonlight ergonomic hook.*
  • Yarn needle
  • Scissors
  • Measuring tape

Notes

  1. Please read through all notes and pattern before you begin.
  2. You’ll start with a magic ring (or circle), you can also chain 3 and slip stitch to the first chain to join, and then work into the circle.
  3. Scrubby is worked in the round which means the last stitch is joined to the first stitch with a slip stitch.
  4. Each round begins with a chain 1, this does not count as a stitch.

Gauge

5 rounds in hdc = 4″ across

There’s not really a right size or wrong size for these, but if you want to match the pattern then measure your circle across the diameter. If you get 4″ then you’ve hit the perfect size. Learn more about gauge here.
