Luna Cowl Easy Knitting Pattern With Mohair + DK Yarn

Mohair and texture can coexist in one easy knitting pattern! The Luna Cowl combines two gorgeous hand dyed yarns in one stunning piece. Keep your neck warm and your style on point with this one.

I created this cowl to be beginner friendly and chock full of texture! But I also knew the colors would really shine if there was some simple stockinette element to it so I was sure to include that too.

Materials

  • 175 yd Kraeo’s Mama Bear DK  (45% Baby Alpaca, 45% Merino Wool, 10% Mulberry Silk, 245 yd (224 m) per 100 g hank) in shade Winter Sky: 1 hank.
  • 200 yd Kraeo’s Kid Mohair Lace Weight (72 % Kid Mohair, 28% Mulberry Silk, 459 yd (420 m) per 50 g hank) in shade: Fire in the Sky: 1 hank.
  • 3.5 mm (US 4) 16” or longer circular needles or size needed to meet gauge.
  • Yarn needle, measuring tape, scissors, stitch marker(s).

Gauge

20 sts x 36 rnds (after blocking) to 4” (10 cm) measured in St st using 3.5 mm (US 4) needles with two yarns held together.

Sizing

7.25” tall x 12” wide when flat (18.5 x 30.5 cm)

Notes

  1. Please read through all notes and pattern before you begin.
  2. Please check gauge first. Gauge provided is with two yarns held together.
  3. Stitch multiple is 6.

Adjustments

To make a longer or shorter cowl you can add or subtract to my cast on in groups of 6.

To make a taller or shorter cowl add or subtract repeat rounds.

Remember when adjusting that changes will also affect the amount of yarn needed so plan accordingly.

Instructions

With two yarns held together CO 114 sts join to knit in the round placing st marker at beginning of rnd.
Rnd 1. *K4, p2; rep from * around. [114 sts]
Rnds 2 – 6. Rep rnd 1 for 6 rnds total.
Rnd 7. K1, *p2, k4; rep from * until 5 sts left, p2, k3.
Rnd 8 – 12. Rep rnd 7 for 6 rnds total.
Rnd 13. K all.
Rnds 14 – 24. Rep rnd 13 for 12 rnds total.
Rep rnds 1 – 24
one more time.
Rep rnds 1 – 12 again.
BO in pattern.
Finishing
Cut yarn, weave in ends. Block.
