- #4 medium worsted weight yarn (100% superwash merino wool,* 218 yd (180 m) per 199 g skein) — 1 skein.
- 4 mm (US Size G–4) crochet hook for ribbing
- 5 mm (US Size H–8) hook* for hat body (or size needed to meet gauge).

Construction
The hat brim ribbing is crocheted flat, then seamed to make a circle. The hat body is worked along the top of the ribbing, in the round. Since this is single crochet the rounds are worked continuously in the same direction. The crown is decreased and the top is cinched closed.

Fit/Adjustments
The ribbed brim is smaller than actual head circumference and will stretch to fit.
This hat pattern is intended to fit like a beanie, for a slouchy hat you can keep crocheting to increase the height at least 2 – 3″ before moving on to decrease the crown.

Match short ends of brim and sl st together to form a circle. Pattern continues by crocheting along the top of brim, working in the round.
Hat Body
Switch to larger hook.
Rnd 1. Place 66 [72, 76, 80, 86, 90, 96, 100, 104, 110, 114] sc evenly around top of brim. Place locking st marker in first st. Rounds are worked continuously, move st marker up to first st on every rnd.

Finishing
Cut a long tail. 8-12" is plenty of length. Thread tail on to yarn needle. Weave long tail through all live stitches, remove needles and pull to close.
Optionally you may want to add a pom pom to the top of the hat. Sew hole closed. Weave in ends.
