Chunky Knit Ear Warmer a Free Knitting Pattern

Sharing is caring!

The Dossi, a chunky knit earwarmer is a winter wonder. It keeps you warm while accessorizing as well.

The easy pattern is perfect for beginning knitters and works up quickly in super bulky weight yarn. They make gorgeous handmade gifts for everyone on your list!

I worked up a whole set of chunky knit ear warmers for teachers’ Christmas gifts. I love gifting handmade creations that are also useful.

Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick and Quick is one of my favorite yarns to work with-especially knitting. It’s just so squishy and fluffy. The bit of wool in it adds some much needed warmth for those winter months.

The chunky knit ear warmer is worked flat and then seamed together. You could simply sew the short ends together for a simplified look. I included pictures of how I folded and seamed the ends for the cinched look.

This little ear warmer headband is such a fun, fast knitting project. You might also like the Bianca Bookmark knitting pattern a free beginner friendly make that only uses a little yarn and time.

Gauge

8 sts x 14 rows (after blocking) to 4” (10 cm) measured in seed st.

Please swatch carefully, as incorrect gauge will cause the ear warmer to come out the wrong size.

Finished Dimensions

Ear warmer is 5”/12.5cm wide.

Length has 2” of negative ease.

Finished lengths: Toddler = 16″/40.5cm, Child = 18″/46cm, Tween/Sm Adult = 20″/51cm, Md/Lg Adult = 21″/53cm

Fit

Pattern has negative ease of 2″/5cm where the finished ear warmer is smaller than the head circumference and stretches to fit.

To fit age (head circumference): Toddler (18″/46cm), Child (20″/51cm), Teen/Sm Adult (22″/56cm), M/L Adult (23″/58.5cm).

Adjustments

To knit a wider or narrower ear warmer cast on an even number of stitches. Changing the length is easy to do by adjusting the number of rows you knit.

  1. Thanks so much for this simple pattern. I’m teaching my granddaughter to knit and I believe she’ll be able to do this one all by herself. All of your patterns are beautiful. Thank you.
