The Torino Head Scarf is great way to hold back your hair without pulling it up in a pony tail. I chose to use cotton yarn for this summer pattern.

This crochet head kerchief is made with one solid color but this would be a fun project to use different colors for a stripe affect too. Read on for the free pattern.

Using a square bandana folded in half to make a triangle you can tie it around your head to hold back your hair. The good news is that since we’re all crocheters here, we don’t have to make a full square, just the triangle.

The Yarn

This pattern only uses one ball of yarn. It’s an easy project to adjust for a larger size, just be sure to get extra yarn.

The yarn I use is Hobbii Friends Cotton which comes in lots of beautiful colors. Thanks to Hobbii for providing the yarn for this design.

This yarn is a #3 light yarn. Likely you can use a worsted weight yarn too, just be sure to check gauge. While I think a cotton yarn is the perfect choice, an acrylic yarn would work too.

This is a great project for beginners. You only need to know the double crochet stitch and single crochet stitch.

Materials

1 ball (82 yd) Hobbii Friends Cotton 8/8 (100% cotton, 50 g / 75 m) a #3 light weight yarn, color: white (117)

4.5 mm hook (US Size G+), or crochet hook size needed to meet gauge

Yarn needle, scissors, measuring tape

Notes

Ch 3 counts as the first dc, I highly recommend a chain 3 alternative.

Skill Level

Easy

Stitches

ch – chain

dc – double crochet

mc – magic circle

sl st – slip stitch

sc – single crochet

Gauge

1” x 1” = 4 dc x 2 rows of dc

Sizing

Fits most adult head circumference of 20” – 22”.

Finished Dimensions

6” from center to tip, 14” wide without ties.

Construction

This pattern is worked from the center out with increases at the beginning of a row, in the center chain space and in the last dc at the end of row. It’s a simple 3 row repeat.

The ties are added afterward with chains. It’s possible to repeat rows 10 – 12 for a longer bandana. You’ll have to adjust the stitch counts accordingly. Be sure to make the last row a row 12 repeat.

FinishingCrochet bandana with ties on wood table.

  1. Continue from where you are, work sc evenly along the front edge, placing 2 sc per dc row is usually a good ratio.
  2. Once you get to the end, chain to 16” for the tie.
  3. Cut yarn. Rejoin yarn with sl st to opposite edge, chain to 16” for the other tie.
  4. Cut yarn and weave in all loose ends.
  5. Block.
