A snug fit lets those flaring ruffle sleeves shine. This beautiful top uses worsted weight yarn so is crochets up fairly quick.
The free crochet tee pattern includes women’s sizes XS-5X. Here I style the Gia tucked in to high waisted pants. I love how crochet ruffles pop against the simple stitch.

Styling your crochet top is always up to you. You can also choose to go up a size in the pattern for a looser, more classic fit.
For reference the sweater in the picture is size S on 34″ bust model.

To crochet this sweater with minimal seams, we’ll join and turn. If you haven’t used this technique before, you’ll want to check out my tutorial on it.

This leaves just sewing the shoulders together. The sleeves are crocheted on to the armholes. The crochet ruffle pattern is so easy to make!

The Yarn
For this crochet top I use Touch of Alpaca* which is a lovely blend of acrylic and alpaca. I love that it’s hypoallergenic.
This is a #4 medium worsted weight yarn. Since it’s a blend of natural and man made fiber it may relax more than some yarns.
Can you substitute a different yarn? Absolutely. Many #4 medium worsted weight yarns will work well for this sweater.
It’s always important to check gauge (see info below in notes), but especially when crocheting garments. It’s totally normal to need to go up/down a hook size to meet my gauge.
Please note that the gauge info is after blocking because different yarns react differently to blocking (and washing). I have a tutorial on how to block a hat, which is helpful if you’re not sure what to do.

The Stitch
The Gia features the extended single crochet stitch. I love that this stitch looks very similar to a standard single crochet, but lends more drape to the fabric.
It’s a simple stitch to make, and if you need to learn it I have a tutorial for the extended single crochet here.
Materials
- Touch of Alpaca Yarn* a #4 medium weight yarn (90% acrylic, 10% alpaca, 207 yd (190 m) per 100 g skein) in shade taupe: 3 [4, 5, 5, 6, 6, 7, 7, 8] skeins.
- 5.5mm US size (I)-9 hook,* or hook needed to meet gauge.
- stitch markers, yarn needle, measuring tape, scissors
Yarn By Size
- XS – 615 yd (562 m)
- S – 828 yd (757 m)
- M – 931 yd (851 m)
- L – 1035 yd (946 m)
- XL – 1139 yd (1042 m)
- 2X – 1242 yd (1135 m)
- 3X – 1346 yd (1231 m)
- 4X – 1449 yd (1325 m)
- 5X – 1552 yd (1419 m)
Notes
- Please read through all notes and pattern before you begin.
- Work up a gauge swatch using the provided gauge information. Be sure to block it. If your gauge matches great, continue on. If not, change your hook size and swatch again. If your stitches are smaller, go up a hook size, if they’re larger, go down a hook size.
- Ch 1 does not count as a stitch.
- Stitch multiple is an even number.
- Check stitch count before starting a new section.
- Pattern is written for multiple sizes, with the smallest size written first and each subsequent size written in parentheses XS (S, M, L, XL, 2X, 3X, 4X, 5X). For example: Rnd 1. FSC 84 (94, 106, 116, 128, 138, 150, 160, 176). To make an XS you would foundation single crochet 84, for a M you would foundation single crochet 106 and a 4X you would foundation single crochet 160. Instructions in black apply to all sizes.

Skill Level

Construction
The main body is crocheted as one piece, bottom up. It’s worked in the round and turned after each round, so you will work on both sides of the fabric. Once it is divided into the front and back panels, they are worked in flat rows.
You will seam it together at the shoulders. The sleeves are joined on at the armholes and also worked in the round.
Sizing
Suggested ease 0 – .5” (1.5 cm).
Pictured in size SM on model with 34” (86.5 cm) bust.
To Fit Bust Size: 30” [34, 38, 42, 46, 50, 54, 58, 62] in (76 cm [86.5, 96.5, 106.5, 117, 127, 137, 147, 157.5] cm)
Finished Bust: 30.5” [34.25, 38.5, 42.25, 46.5, 50.25, 54.5, 58.25, 64] in (77.5 [87, 98, 107.5, 118, 127.5, 138.5, 148, 162.5] cm)
Fit/Adjustment
Pattern adds 0 – .5” (1.5 cm) ease to bust measurement, for a snug fit. For a looser fit, go up a size (or two).
To adjust length of sweater add or subtract rows before dividing for the front and back panels. Measure from your underarm down to where you want the sweater to stop. This is your desired length before dividing.
