The Pixie Spice Hat A Free Crochet Pixie Hat Pattern

This crochet pixie hat is just the perfect style for this time of year. Crisp mornings, falling leavings and warm fires bring images of my little ones cavorting outdoors like wood sprites adorned with these pixie hats crocheted in every autumn color- rust, chocolate and butterscotch.

And when they’re tired out of jumping into giant piles of leaves they come inside cheeks flushed, pulling off their mama crocheted pixie hats and warming up with mugs of hot chocolate by the fire.

This fast little pixie hat packs a powerful punch, with rows and rows of crochet texture. Just two contrasting crochet stitches create this beautiful hood.

I love a pattern that I can memorize after the first repeat and work on while life is going on around me. These are the patterns I love to create and crochet, because that means I get to crochet that much more.

This pixie hat crochet pattern is offered in sizes NB-Adult so go ahead and make all the Pixie Spice Hats in all the sizes and all the colors! What are your favorite fall colors?

I love designing pieces are that my boys and my little lady can both rock!

How to Seam a Pixie Hat

picture of crochet pixie hat stitches in rectangle

Cut your yarn and leave a long length to seam your hat together. With right sides touching, fold your rectangle in half, matching up the short ends, with row 1 on the bottom and your last row on top (with your long tail for sewing).

You will seam the top of your hat now. Using a mattress stitch sew together the top two rows you just folded together, forming the top seam of your hat. Finish off and turn your hat right side out.

Row 1 will be the bottom of your hat, which will fit around your neck, the seam you just made will be on the top of your head.

  2. Ch 2, exhdc in the same st and in each st, turn.
  3. Rep Row 2.  Do not finish off if you wish to add a buttonhole.

For a 1” button, from where you are at the end of Row 3 on the front left corner, ch 5, counting back down the row you just completed, sk 3 st and ss to the 4th st. Finish off.  For a different size button chain to the number necessary for the button to fit through.

Sew your button on to the opposite corner. The button closure fits under the chin.
