The Vigo Beanie is a cozy hat with little pop of texture! This top down crochet hat pattern includes all sizes from baby through adult so you can crochet winter hats for anyone before the cold weather sets in.

While most of the hat is crocheted with the half double crochet stitch, the interesting stitch pattern features the pineapple cluster stitch. This stitch is fun to make and not too challenging. Like puff stitches you can get these to pop out on the right side. For those who may be new to this stitch, I include tutorial link under the Stitches and Abbreviations section.

A nice post stitch ribbing is used to finish off this worsted weight hat pattern, giving it a snug fit right where you need it!

The Yarn

For this winter hat crochet pattern I chose a worsted weight, self striping yarn. You can make this one in a solid color, or use different colors to make the stripes yourself.

If you are substituting yarns, use the same yarn weight and be sure to check gauge for the best fit.

Notes

Ch 1 does not count as a stitch. To keep my joins nice I prefer the ch 1 to start half double crochet rows and I make my slip stitches small when joining the round.
Stitch multiple is 8.

For the most part this is an easy pattern but since there are special stitches it is marked intermediate. If you’re an advanced beginner and willing to learn new stitches then I’m confident you can also crochet this hat!

Handy tip: Before you start!

If you will add a faux fur pom pom (or a handmade yarn pom!) to the top of the hat it’s a good idea to start with a long tail that you can use to sew the pom pom on at the end!
