Summer Diamonds Crochet Hat Pattern-Lightweight Chemo Cap

The Summer Diamonds Beanie features an easy diamond pattern around the hat. This top down hat is crocheted in cotton yarn which makes a great chemo cap for summer time.

To create this summer crochet chemo cap I wanted a lightweight yarn. I chose cotton so the stitches are breathable without being see through.

Which also means it’s not itchy on sensitive scalps. Getting outside and enjoying the sunshine can be so rewarding, protecting your head is important.

The diamonds is made with simple double crochet stitches!

The Yarn

In order to keep this hat light, I am using Berroco Modern Cotton DK. It has a gorgeous sheen and comes in a variety of color choices.

I chose a neutral color and added a simple diamond pattern for a little detail. These are colors that I know the recipient really likes.

Notes

  1. This hat pattern is worked in the round. You will join with a slip stitch at the end of each round, and continue working in the same direction.
  2. Ch 3 counts as a stitch, I highly recommend using a ch 3 alternative, here are my favorites.
  3. Diamond pattern is worked over a stitch multiple of 12.

Fit/Adjustments

This hat is designed for adults. It will fit a 19″/48cm-22″/56cm head circumference.

To alter the size of this hat you can change the size of your crown circle, which is Rounds 1-8 in the pattern. For a smaller hat, crochet less rounds. For a larger hat, crochet more rounds. This is also helpful if you are having trouble meeting gauge.

If you change the crown size, the diamond pattern is worked over 12 stitches, so keep it a stitch multiple of 12.

To adjust the height of the hat just crochet less rounds of the repeat, which are Rounds 10-18 in the pattern.
