Yarn
I used Crafter’s Secret a cotton yarn. It’s a #4 medium worsted weight yarn for the to go cozy pictured. You can use any medium weight yarn.
If you want an absorbent coffee cup sleeve then use cotton. Acrylic yarns are ok to use, but are not absorbent.
I’ve been wanting to try different colors in this travel cup cozy, but haven’t gotten to it yet! Cup cozies are a great way to use up scrap yarn for a last minute gift.
Stitch
This coffee cup cozy is a simple pattern with a special stitch. It’s a mix of half double crochets and the mini bean stitch. I’ve linked up tutorials for these in the Stitches + Special Stitches sections.
Materials
- 35-45 yds of #4 medium weight yarn*
- 5.5 mm hook*
- Yarn needle
- Measuring tape
- Scissors
Notes
- Stitch multiple is 2 + 1
- This crochet coffee cozy is worked in the round, but turned after each round so you will work on both sides.
Stitches/Abbreviations (US Terms)
sk – skip the indicated stitch
ch(s) – chain(s)
st(s) – stitch(es)
rep – repeat
hdc – half double crochet
sc – single crochet
Special Stitches
mb-mini bean stitch: insert your hook into the stitch to be worked, yo and pull up a loop (2 loops on your hook), yo (3 loops on your hook) insert your hook back into the same st, yo and pull up a loop (4 loops on your hook), yo and pull through all 4 loops on your hook, ch 1.

Construction
This Coffee Bean To Go Cup Cozy is joined and turned after each round. This allows us to crochet the cozy into a sleeve without having to sew it together. It will also preserve the texture of the stitches.
Finished Dimensions
4″ / 10 cm wide when flat x 3″ / 7.5 cm tall, and fits a 9” / 23 cm travel to-go cup
Adjustment
To adjust height of cup cozy repeat Rows 4-7, or any combination of rows you like. Alternatively, you can leave off a row of half double crochet stitches if you need a smaller version.
To adjust the width of cozy increase or decrease the number of chains in twos, then add one more. You need an odd number of stitches.

Instructions
Start with a slip knot, chain 25, slip stitch to first ch to join into a circle.
Ch 2 to start the round.
Half double crochet in each stitch around. Join with a slip stitch to the first hdc and turn.
Rnd 2. Ch 2, mb in same st, *(sk next st, mb in next st) rep from * around, sl st to first mb made to join, turn. (12 mb)
Rnd 3. Ch 2, mb in same st, *(sk next st, mb in next st)
rep from * around, sl st to first mb made to join, turn.
Rnd 4. Ch 2, hdc in same st,
continue to hdc in each st around, sl st to first hdc to join, turn.
Rnd 5. Ch 2, hdc in same st, continue to hdc in each st around, sl st to first hdc to join, turn.
Rnd 6. Ch 2, mb in same st, *(sk next st, mb in next st) rep from * around, sl st to first mb made to join, turn.
