Free Crochet Hat Pattern | Pinerolo Hat in All Sizes

Sharing is caring!

The Pinerolo is a Free Crochet Hat Pattern in all sizes for the family. This textured hat is beautiful with a pom pom and will keep you cozy and warm this winter.

The basketweave style texture is so mesmerizing. This crochet beanie uses less than one skein of worsted weight yarn, no matter the size you make.

The texture works up with front post double crochet stitches. If these are new to you, I include the tutorial links below.

Materials

  • #4 worsted weight yarn, pictured in Lion Brand Jeans Yarn* (100% acrylic, 246yd/225m, 3.5oz/100g) color: Topstitch, 1 ball; or 175yd/160m-246yd/225m of comparable yarn.
  • 5.5mm US Size I-9 hook*
  • Yarn needle
  • Measuring tape
  • Scissors

Notes

  1. The stitch multiple after the band is 6, so if your band is too tight or too loose try going up or down in hoo size instead of adjusting the stitch count.
  2. Ch 3 counts as a dc, please consider using an alternative to Ch 3, i.e. standing stitch.
  3. The pattern is written with two options: starting chain or foundation double crochets. I highly recommend using the fdc as it provides your fitted items with the stretch they need to fit well.
  4. Hat works from the bottom up, in the round.
  5. Pattern is a 3 round repeat, with the exception of the first and last rounds. I’ve indicated the starting st of each round in ( ) for ease.

Adjustments

The stitch multiple for this pattern is 6. If you need to make adjustments, or have trouble meeting gauge here are a few things to try.

First, going up or down a size in the pattern will usually work for most fit needs.

Second, I recommend going up or down a hook size, and working the pattern as normal.

If you still need to adjust, you can subtract or add 6 to my starting count.

To shorten or lengthen your hat, simply take off or add rounds, remember they’re grouped in 3s.

There is a matching cowl and fingerless gloves pattern to go with this hat!
