Sorrento Ear Warmer Free Crochet Pattern

Sharing is caring!

The Sorrento Ear Warmer Crochet Pattern combines texture and color for a cozy headband. This warm earwarmer pops with bobble stitches and stripes.

Two different colors create the beautiful striping, but of course, a solid or self striping yarn would be lovely also.

The free crochet pattern for this ear warmer is below and includes photos for each row or section. For even more support all the stitches have tutorial links as well.

Yarn

I use Paintbox Simply Chunky yarn, this is a #5 bulky weight yarn. However, I find it to be thinner than many other in it’s weight. You can use #4 medium worsted weight yarn, if you can meet gauge.

A #5 bulky weight yarn that is similar is Red Heart Soft Essentials.* Or thicker #4 yarns, like Red Heart With Love* should work well also.

The best way to check is just to work up a gauge swatch!

Stitches in this Ear Warmer

The Sorrento features a combination of stitches to achieve all that textured goodness.

I link up tutorials in the Stitches section. Since this pattern uses bobbles and post stitches (among others) the level is intermediate.

However, an advanced beginner can make this headband pattern too. I include pictures of almost every row, and many are repeats.

Again, most of the stitches have tutorials, so beginners can use those to help them learn (or remember) new stitches.

The other side that doesn’t show the bobbles is just as textured and interesting!

Materials

  • 2 balls of Paintbox Simply Chunky Yarn* a #5 bulky weight yarn (100% Acrylic, 100g/3.5oz, 149 yd/136m) color: Vanilla Cream (MC) and Vintage Pink (CC).
  • A comparable substitute is Red Heart Soft Essentials, or you may be able to meet gauge with a #4 medium weight yarn, as this is a thinner #5 yarn.
  • 5mm US size H crochet hook, or hook needed to meet gauge. I love my Furls ergonomic hooks.*
  • yarn needle
  • scissors
  • measuring tape

My favorite Hooks are Furls* and Clover*!

Notes

  1. Ch 3 counts as a stitch, I highly recommend using a ch 3 alternative, here are my favorites.
  2. Ch 1 does not count as a stitch.
  3. Stitch multiple is 4 +3.

The number of rows gives you the length. For a longer/shorter earwarmer you can repeat/leave out a section or row.
