This crochet pattern is the perfect way to use up scrap yarn. Plus it’s a quick project for the warmer months. Read on for the free crochet pattern for this beautiful towel.
The Stitches
The first stitch section is made with simple stitches: half double and single crochets. The first few rows are half double crochet in the neutral color. Then the next stitch is single crochet for the colorwork rows. And then back to half double crochet again before the basketweave stitches.
This crochet towel pattern is labeled as intermediate level for the post stitch pattern. But an advanced beginner can take on this pattern too. I link up tutorials for all the crochet stitches under the “Stitches and Abbreviations” section below.
You’ll need to know how to change colors in the middle of a row and at the beginning of a row. There are tutorial links for these techniques under the “Notes” section too.
Otherwise, the rest of the towel and washcloth are simply a repeat row of half double crochets, like the first rows.

Notes
- Ch 1 at the beginning of a row does not count as a stitch.
- Ch 3 counts as a stitch, I highly recommend using a ch 3 alternative.
- There are many color changes in this pattern. The color change rows are paired so you can carry the yarn up to the next row.
- I have some color changing tutorials that might help here: Color Changes in the Middle, Change Color End of Row, Color Changing Tips.
- Colorwork rows are all worked in single crochet, with counts for each color given.
- The washcloth and towel color counts are different.
- All measurements are taken before blocking.
- To make different sizes you will need a stitch multiple of 6, plus 2.
