Textured Crochet Ear Warmer For DK Yarn

Sharing is caring!

The Lena ear warmer is a lovey lightweight design featuring contrasting colors in DK yarn. This beautiful crochet headband works well for the cool spring mornings and crisp fall afternoons.

I love a great stash busting pattern. Since crochet ear warmers don’t use up too much yarn they’re a great way to put that leftover yarn to work!

The Lena features mostly double crochet stitches so it works up quickly. The ribbing is nice and stretch giving you a great fit. With 11 sizes you can easily go up or down a size too without having to do the crochet math!

The Yarn

The Swish yarn* for this ear warmer crochet pattern is a #3 lightweight or DK weight yarn. This super wash merino wool is such a soft yarn. The color selection is gorgeous which means you can choose a different color and make this quick project perfect!

You can, of course, substitute any brand and fiber of yarn. Just be sure to use a #3 yarn weight.

Important: Be sure to check gauge with your chosen yarn and hook! This is a wool yarn which responds differently than acrylic yarn to blocking so be sure to swatch your yarn.

Materials

  • WeCrochet’s Swish* a #3 DK yarn (100% superwash merino wool, 123 yd / 50 g) in shades: Color A – Marina (1 skein) + Color B – Wonderland Heather (1 skein). See sizes + yarn below.
  • 4.5 mm hook (US size 7), or size needed to meet gauge. I’m using my Furls Ergonomic hook* here.
  • Scissors, yarn needle, measuring tape, stitch marker.

Ch 3 counts as the first dc. I prefer to use a ch 3 alternative, this is my favorite one.

Gauge

2” / 5 cm x 2” / 5 cm = 8 dc x 5 rnds of dc

Gauge is after blocking. Please check gauge carefully or you risk your ear warmer not fitting well. Learn more about making a gauge swatch here.

Skill Level

Intermediate

While most of this free crochet pattern uses basic stitches the ribbing requires post stitches which are considered intermediate stitches, but other than those this is an easy pattern.

Hat band has a negative ease of 2″ (5 cm) and stretches to fit. See Yarn + Sizes above for more.

Finished height is 3” for baby sizes 0 – 3 mos through 12 – 24 mos, and 3.5” for all others.

The stitch multiple is 2 for this pattern. You can adjust the stitch counts by adding or subtracting in 2s.

You can adjust the height by adding or subtracting rounds to the brim or body.
