Yarn
The nice thing about knitting blankets in thick yarn is it doesn’t take as much yarn. Paintbox Yarns 10 ball pack of Simply Super Chunky* is perfect for the smallest size.
3 in 1
knitting pattern bundle
This pattern pack includes knitting patterns for 3 easy blankets to knit for family, friends or your home.
Can I substitute yarns?
Absolutely. The type of yarn you choose depends on your preferences, but the weight of the yarn needs to be a #6 super bulky yarn for this blanket pattern.
One of the best yarns I can recommend is Wool Ease Thick and Quick from Lion Brand Yarn. The Sophia Knit Blanket and the Bella Vita Blanket Knitting Patterns both features this beautiful yarn.
Another popular choice is the Bernat Softee Chunky yarn, which is a 100% acrylic yarn.

Stitch
This blanket pattern is made with simple stitches. The easy garter stitch border is simply knits on both sides. The main section is a repeating knit and purl stitch pattern. You don’t need a lot of knitting experience to make this beautiful blanket.
I love a simple knit like this knit pillow cover from Little Yellow Wheelbarrow.
A chunky hand knit blanket works up fast and makes the perfect gift. Which is so gratifying when you’re pressed for time.

Hi! Love the pattern!! I have an issue smile. I have Rheumatoid arthritis and my hands can’t hold size 15 needles. I’m doing knitting (that I have not done in decades 🤗) to help decrease inflammation & increase flexibility and strength. So far can go up to 13. What would be cast on for a 40 width using 13 needles? I have 880 yards of yarn.
What abt the Bella Bita blanket? Same issues.
Thanks!!
Hope you have a great holiday season!!
Have fun & stay safe!!
I’m from Ontario Canada & we are a mess. So stay safe !

Hi Liz,
Thank you! Sorry to hear you’re suffering from arthritis, but I’m glad to hear knitting can help with this! Using the smaller size 13 needles should be totally fine, but it is going to give you a smaller blanket.
I would recommend swatching with your yarn and needles and comparing it to the pattern gauge. This will tell you big or small your blanket will be. Then you can choose a larger size, like the throw size (cast on 109), and end up with a baby size blanket, about 36″ wide. This is just an example, without swatching I really can’t tell you.
If you work up a small swatch and know how many stitches per inch, then I can assist you further.
I hope that helps! Stay warm!

I have a question, on the “main section” 2. row 6 says K3, sm, p to last 3 sts, sm, purl to the end, I’m wondering if the purl to the end after the second marker is correct since it appears to be the garter stitch border that needs to be maintained, shouldn’t it be knit to the end rather than purl?
Hi Lisa,
Thank you for your question. Yes, you are right, it is K to the end. Sorry about that! Thank you for asking, I have corrected it.
Have a good week,
Crystal
I’m a beginner. What is SM?
Hi, it’s under abbreviations: sm – slip marker
