Free Crochet Baby Blanket Pattern | Alessio Blanket

The Alessio is a striking but easy crochet baby blanket pattern. The textured rows are placed evenly throughout an easy double crochet blanket.

To really customize this baby blanket a few stripes in the stitch pattern are highlighted in your chosen color. With baby boys in mind I chose a beautiful sea blue for this blanket.

The border on this crochet blanket pattern is my favorite part. The reversal of the colors brings this blanket together in a lovely way.

I love the simplicity of the texture here.

The Yarn

The yarn for this baby blanket is I Love This Yarn, a #4 medium worsted weight yarn. This affordable, and soft yarn comes in a wide array of colors.

Since I have made a quite a few crochet blankets in this yarn, I know it holds up well. This acrylic yarn can be machine washed and dried, which makes it family friendly.

You can substitute another #4 weight yarn for this blanket if you wish.

Stripes

Striping is always up to you. If you want a similar look, I include all the striping details below by size.

The colors changes for the stripes are worked on the stitch pattern row, which is made every 4th row and on the wrong side so the stitches pop!

I love how the stripes works in this blanket, but this would make a gorgeous single color blanket as well.

The Border

As I said, the border is my favorite part. The color contrast pulls it together just right!

The border adds about 1.75″/4.5cm to the blanket size.

Notes

  1. Ch 3 at the beginning of a row counts as a double crochet. I highly recommend using a standing stitch.
  2. The stitch multiple for this blanket is an odd number.
  3. The row repeat is a 4 row repeat, with the stitch pattern being worked on the wrong size.
  4. Contrast striping (pictured in Color B blue) is made on the 4th row of the repeat-the stitch pattern row.
  5. Suggested row striping is included below for the various sizes, although the stipe pattern will vary some based on size.
