Rectangle Shawl Crochet Pattern | Finestra Wrap

The Finestra Wrap is a light and lacy rectangle shawl crochet pattern. Style it as a scarf, or wrap it around your shoulders on chilly mornings. Contrasting stripes and open blocks create a stunning shawl to welcome in warmer weather this season.

Summer shawls are an essential when the morning and evenings cool down. The openess of this one makes wearing it as a transitional piece easy.

The Finestra is a narrow crochet shawl, only 14″ wide so it’s easy to wear as a scarf. The width is easy to adjust with more rows for a wider coverage shawl too.

Yarn

The yarn for this rectangle shawl crochet pattern was generously provide by WeCrochet for the #SpringStyleBlogHopWeC. For the Finestra Scarf Wrap I use Brava Worsted, a #4 medium worsted weight yarn.

I chose colors that evoke springtime for me, which always includes green. I love the name of the green I chose too, Tranquil.

To contrast the Tranquil green I chose Clarity, a very light blue color. Light and airy are always great for those spring to summer pieces.

Stitch

In keeping with the light and airy feel of the colors of the Finestra Scarf Wrap, the design incorporates open blocks of varying sizes.

These blocks and spaces are crocheted with double crochets and chains creating a lovely, easy open lace design.

To crochet the Finestra here’s what you’ll need.

Materials

  • #4 medium weight yarn, pictured in Brava worsted yarn-2 balls in Clarity and 2 balls in Tranquil
  • Colors divided by: 436yds/399m in MC color (light blue) and 318yds/291m in CC (green)
  • 5.5mm crochet hook, or hook needed to meet gauge
  • yarn needle
  • scissors
  • measuring tape

Notes

  1. Ch 3 counts as a stitch, I highly recommend using a ch 3 alternative, here’s my favorite.
  2. Stitch multiple is 8 + 3, plus 1 for a chain start.
  3. Ch 1 at the beginning of a sc row does not count as a st.

Construction

This scarf is worked on the long edge, meaning your foundation row will equal the length. The width, or height of your scarf will be the number of rows.

Fit/Adjustment

Finished Dimensions: 62”/157cm long x 14”/36cm wide

To adjust the width, or height of your scarf you can increase or decrease the number of repeat rows. I recommend adding a full 4-6 row repeat.

The pattern starts with “fsc 195,” to crochet a longer scarf, add 8 sts: 195 + 8 = 203. To crochet a shorter scarf, subtract 8 sts: 195 – 8 = 187.

To customize the length of your scarf further, you will start with a multiple of 8 (8, 16, 24, etc.), then add 3 more, and 1 more if using a chain start.

Please remember that any changes will affect the amount of yarn needed, so plan accordingly.
