Baby Christmas Blocks Sewing Pattern Review
Hey y’all! I’ve got the perfect little handmade Christmas block pattern for the sweet baby in your life.
I love making special gifts (all year), but especially at Christmas. However, I’m always running short on time. This is why these little Christmas blocks are such a great gift idea.
They’re super quick. The pattern is detailed and clear. And they can be made with scraps you have on hand! My absolute favorite type of project.

This baby Christmas Blocks sewing pattern from Swoodson Says is so eye-catching! But aren’t all Christmas colors?
These beauties were made last spring-and I’m just now getting around to posting about them. Oops! I almost missed the holidays. What can I say, but it’s been a crazy year.
Earlier this year I had the opportunity to test this pattern for Stephanie as she prepared for a Christmas in July release. I applaud her planning cause I still have trouble getting holiday project inspiration so far in advance.
I guess I have to be surrounded by all the twinkling lights, with a chill in the air and Christmas music playing in the background. Now I want some hot cocoa.
The Pattern Details:
The Christmas Block pattern comes as a downloadable pdf with all the info you need-even if you’re a beginner! Stephanie includes “suggested fabrics,” which I just love because when you’re first learning to sew fabric types are an enigma.
Plus, you don’t always have the exact fabric required on hand so a few ideas are helpful before you head out to the store. Plus she includes a required supplies list and even printing tips, if needed.
There are some amazing sewing tips to really help you get the most from the Christmas Blocks pattern. She provides plenty of step by step pictures to capture all the details.
Stephanie even has a tutorial specific to appliques if you need further help. This is a great pattern to use if you’re new to applique. The lines are simple and she includes so many options that you can pick and choose for a totally custom look!
I love how she includes several finished pictures for “inspiration.” It’s always neat to see what choices other people have made and how their blocks turned out.
I wouldn’t have thought to make Christmas blocks with pinks and purples, but I think those turned out amazing. Check them out here.
At this point my fabric stash is full of small pieces that were perfect for this pattern. I really like being able to mix and match pieces.
I chose some textured options cause I know babies love the feel and look of different fabrics, since they’re little sponges soaking their environment all up.
I went with a soft minky and the green I chose has a dimpled texture. To compliment those solid colors I chose some festive Christmas prints and complimentary colors.
I used a white felt fabric for the appliques, but you can choose quilting cotton in prints or solids as well.
I used Heat ‘n Bond’s fusible fleece to stabilize my blocks-which she covers in detail if you haven’t done this before.
And to stuff them I pulled from my big bag of polyfill-so useful to have on hand.
So what are you waiting for? Go get your Christmas blocks pattern and pick out some fun fabrics.
This is a great pattern that I will use over and over again. These blocks would make amazing baby shower gifts, toddler birthday gifts and, of course, Christmas gifts.
My preschooler and kindergartner love them as much as the baby! Isn’t that the way of it?
