The Best Yarn for Quick Crochet Gifts

I love Lion Brand’s Hometown Yarn* for quick gifts. It’s a #6 Superbulky yarn that comes in every color.

The yarn is soft and has such a shine to it!

The colors I chose for the Monte Cowl are Madison Mustard, which is Color A in the pattern, and Montpelier Peacock, which is the teal-Color B below.

Hometown Yarn is 100% acrylic which means it’s affordable and machine washable so it’s easy to care for.

More Crochet Cowl Patterns

These free crochet patterns make great gifts too! Cowl crochet patterns make fabulous gifts that are useful and use very little yarn.

The Pinerolo is a free crochet cowl pattern that features a lovely basket weave like stitch. For a lightweight crochet cowl check out the Trina-this one is great for gifting to those who live in warmer climates.

The Alza is crochet scarf pattern, but it’s a quick make in chunk yarn and could be fashioned into a cowl by seaming, if you like.

Materials

  • Hometown Yarn* a #6 super bulky weight yarn (100% Acrylic, 5 oz/142g, 81 yd/74 m) color: Madison Mustard-Color A, Montpelier Peacock-Color B; 1 ball each.

Notes

  1. Please read through all notes and pattern before you begin.
  2. Work up a gauge swatch using the provided gauge information. If your gauge matches great, continue on, if it does not, change your hook size and swatch again. If your stitches are smaller, go up a hook size, if they’re larger, go down a hook size.
  3. Ch 3 counts as a stitch, I highly recommend using a ch 3 alternative, here’s my favorite.
  4. Ch 1 at beginning of round does not count as a stitch.
  5. Cowl is worked in the round, joining each round with a slip stitch.
  6. Stitch multiple is 4.
  7. Color changes happen at the start of a new round so you can cut yarn and join with a slip stitch or carry the yarn up the rows.
