Verso Ear Warmer Crochet Pattern

Sharing is caring!

The Verso Earwarmer features textured stripes so you can stay warm and stylish. This free crochet pattern includes sizes to fit toddlers through adult.

Creating the texture is an easy with a combination of stitches. A crochet earwarmer makes an excellent gift.

The earwarmer I’m wearing in the pictures here only uses about 70 yards of yarn. So this little project can be a great stash buster for all those odds and ends you may have laying around.

The fit is easy to customize with these bottom up pieces. A nice, snug ribbing keeps this earwarmer in place.

I love the contrast these two colors give as well.

The Yarn

For the Verso Earwarmer I use Whims Merino yarn. Made for crocheters, the z-twist of this yarn allows for hook and yarn to work together, maintaining the yarn’s twist.

Whims Merino* is a merino wool + nylon blend, which adds springiness and strength to the yarn. It’s superwash merino which means it won’t felt either. This yarn really made the crochet lace of this scarf shine.

The stitch definition with Whims is fantastic. Meanwhile the fabric retains its softness and drape.

This is a #4 medium worsted weight yarn.

Stitches in the Pattern

The main section of this earwarmer crochets up easily in alternating double crochets and slip stitches. To keep the texture popping be sure to turn after you join your rounds.

To get that exquisite fitting ribbing you’ll use the front post double crochet stitch. If this is a new for you, there’s a tutorial for that! Link is in the Stitches/Abbreviations section.

Notes

  1. Ch 3 counts as a stitch, I highly recommend using a ch 3 alternative, here’s my favorite.
  2. The slip stitch to join each round does not count as a st.
  3. When working the (dc, sl st) rounds Rnd 1 for the Main Section, the last sl st of the round can be hard to see, you may consider using a stitch marker to help.
  4. The band is worked in the round. The Main Section is worked in the round, but joined and turned so the texture “pops” on the right side.
  5. Stitch multiple is 2.

Gauge

4”/10cm x 4”/10cm = 15 dc x 11 rnds of the Main Section rnds 1-2, with 5mm hook, after blocking

I used a merino wool which relaxes a lot in blocking. Please check your gauge for best fit.

Construction

This ear warmer is worked bottom up, in the round. You’ll join to form the band and continue in the same direction, working in the round. You’ll join and turn each round, working on both sides of the fabric.
