Crochet Chevron Baby Blanket Free Pattern

This Chevron Blanket is reminiscent of the classic chevron blankets crocheted by grandma. Even the autumnal color way of this striped chevron brings back memories of her handmade throw draped on the couch.

To give this classic chevron a modern look I chose to create larger stripes, banding them together with one slim stripe in the same colorway throughout.

The Crochet Chevron Baby Blanket is an easy way to get your feet wet when it comes to chevon crochet. I’ve included a video tutorial so even if you’re brand new to crochet or even chevron crochet you’ll be working this one up in no time.

With easy instructions for how to adjust your starting chain (and therefore create a baby, throw or larger size) this chevron blanket has all your needs covered.

Purchase an ad-free pdf of the Chevron Baby Blanket on Ravelry or Etsy.

I must admit, I almost kept this soft squishy blanket for myself. It’s baby size, but a perfect lap blanket for one! We were blessed with a new little nephew recently though so I couldn’t deprive him of it. I pray he enjoys many snuggles in this blanket for years to come.

Materials

  • 1 skein each of Lion Brand Heartland* in Acadia (Color A), Joshua Tree (Color B), Everglades (Color C), Yellowstone (Color D), Grand Canyon (Color E) or about 1000 yds of #4 worsted weight yarn
  • 6mm J Hook*
  • Yarn needle*
  • Measuring tape
  • Scissors

Notes

  • Finished size is 40” x 33”
  • Ch 2 doesn’t count.
  • To adjust the width of your blanket, add (or subtract) stitches in sets of 24 for one peak and one valley, so if we take the starting chain for this size-123 +24=147 or 123-24=99 etc.
  • Stitch multiple is 24, plus 3 for the foundation chain, so one adjustment example to create a larger blanket would be 24×8=195+3=198, to go smaller 24×4=96+3=99
