The Rossi Scarf a Free Crochet Pattern
The Rossi Crochet Scarf is an elegant single crochet scarf. The tonal red circles are enough to give this scarf a Valentine’s Day feel without going over the top.
This crochet scarf pattern works beautifully for men and women alike. Crochet a scarf that can be worn for February and the rest of the chilly months too.
I am in love with the Rossi Scarf, the simplicity, the style, it’s just perfect with a pop of color and interest in those dots.

I love how customizable this crochet scarf is. And what a stash buster pattern the Rossi Scarf can be.
I had a very specific idea of the colors I wanted to use for this scarf. I went with Caron Simply Soft because they have all the colors.
The three reds I chose are a beautiful compliment to one another. Also, I knew Caron Simply Soft yarn would give this all single crochet scarf gorgeous drape.
The Rossi Scarf is a crochet scarf pattern that gives Valentine’s Day a nod. I set out to design a scarf that could be worn for the holiday, but also after!
What do you think? Would you keep your colors a similar tone or go with a variety?
I choose the name Rossi for this scarf since it means “reds” in Italian. Long time readers of my blog will have noticed that I often use Italian words for inspiration.
Plus there’s a graph for the Rossi Scarf
I asked Tasha of Stardust Gold Crochet if she would share a little tutorial for those of us who haven’t crocheted by chart or graph before.
I knew she was the person to ask, because of her stunning Fair Isle Snowflakes & Hearts Slouchy Beanie pattern!
Not only did she work up a little tutorial on How to Read a Graph she also created a video explaining all the ins and outs of reading graphs!
Go check it out and give her a little love. My favorite part of her site is the Stitch Explorers section, because who doesn’t love learning new stitches?
Materials
- 400 yds #4 med worsted weight yarn total. I used Caron Simply Soft* 350 yds in Heathers Grey (main color-mc) and about 50 yds between the three reds: Harvest Red (CC1), Burgundy (CC2) and Autumn Red (CC3) (CC-contrasting colors).
- 5mm hook*
- Yarn needle
- Measuring tape
- Scissors
Notes
- Begin each row with a ch 1, which does not count as a st, your first sc goes in the same st.
- There are 8 rows of MC in between each dot and to start and finish the scarf.
- There are two dot positions either starting in the 8th st or the 16th st, and three dot colors: CC1, CC2, CC3.
- Finished scarf measures 8” x 60”
Color Work
- To change colors work to last st in your current color, begin your stitch normally, but finish in the new color. Specifically, in MC yo and insert your hook into the last stitch BEFORE the color change, yo & pull up a loop. Drop the MC, pulling it toward you. Pull your new color through the two loops, completing your sc. Now your ready for the color change.
- I did not cut my MC yarn, I worked over it, laying it on top of the previous row’s stitches and working into them and over the yarn in the CC. When it’s time, I do the color change, drop the current color and I can pick up the MC because it’s right there.
- I let the CC hang where I drop it and am able to pick it back up when I come back to it. I did have to pull it across a st, as I needed to start my color change earlier when my circles grow. But I kept it loose and was sure not to miss the stitch I pulled it across.
- The colors tangle a little but since the circles are relatively small it’s not too bad and you just cut the CC when your circle is complete.

I really like this scarf, I’ve never worked from a graph before. For some reason I can’t “like” any of your patterns, they all say loading.
