Never miss a pattern!
When the weather warms up you can add the Letta Cowl as a simple, stylish layer. These crochet cowls are perfect for any weather because you can double the size to make it ultra cozy too.
A crochet infinity scarf is a great gift for busy moms. I find they don’t get in the way as much as a regular scarf.

Yarn
You can choose to make this cowl in either DK weight yarn or #4 medium worsted weight yarn.
The long blue sample is Yarn Bee Soft & Sleek, a medium worsted weight yarn. You can substitute any #4 medium yarn if you need to.
The shorter, white cowl is made with Asylum Fiber’s Sparkle DK. Both are show with the same stitch count. It’s just the yarn weight that creates the variation in size!
If you are making this cowl crochet pattern for spring or summer then choosing a cotton yarn* is a great idea. Go for wool* if you want cozy warmth!

More Free Crochet Patterns
If you prefer a traditional style scarf then try the Berryessa Scarf. This skinny scarf pattern features the same stitch as the Letta Cowl, but it’s worked flat.
And if you love making infinity scarf patterns the Retta is a gorgeous one skein cowl that’s also a free pattern. I use Lion Brand 24/7 cotton yarn in this one which is perfect for warmer weather accessories.

Pattern Notes
- The pattern is worked in the round.
- Ch 1 at the beginning of a round does not count as a stitch.
- Ch 3 counts as a double crochet, I recommend using a ch 3 alt – here’s my favorite.
- The stitch multiple is 3.

sl st – slip stitch
Gauge
Long worsted weight version – 16 sts x 18 rows (after blocking) to 4” (10 cm) measured in sc.
Short DK weight version – 15 sts x 16 rows (after blocking to 4” (10 cm) measured in sc.
Finished Size
Long worsted weight version – 5” x 38.5” (12.5 x 98 cm)
Short DK weight version – 9” x 30” (23 x 76 cm)

Adjustments
To increase or decrease the overall length of the cowl you need a stitch multiple of 3. It’s easiest to add or subtract from my starting chain in 3s. To create a taller or narrower cowl just add or subtract more repeats of the 2 row repeat.
Both cowls pictured are worked with 111 sts and the different weight yarns yield different lengths. However, if you would like to make the longer version in DK or shorter in worsted here are the starting chains. Please note you will need more yarn if making these changes.
Worsted weight 38.5” length – fsc 111, 30” – fsc 86.
DK weight 38.5” length – fsc 141, 30” – fsc 111.

Since we have less stitches in this round your work will tighten and curl up some, but we’ll be adding those stitches back in on the next round so it will loosen up again.
