Chunky Crochet Ear Warmer Pattern-Mora Ear Warmer a Free Crochet Pattern
The Mora is a Chunky Crochet Ear Warmer Pattern that crochets up quickly. This simple double crochet ear warmer is easy to make and a useful gift.
Keep everyone’s ears warm in the family. This free crochet ear warmer pattern includes sizes baby-adult.
Red Heart’s Roll With It Tweed is super soft and squishy. This yarn makes for a delightful and cozy winter headband.
In these pictures the Mora Ear Warmer features a button closure at the front. Another option is to seam the small ends together, if you prefer a smoother look.
If you like a little more coverage, simply turn the headband around. The button, or small end can also be worn at the nape of the neck.
This adds the widest width to the front, keeping you extra warm on those chilly days.

Yarn
The yarn in this pattern is Roll With It Tweed* from Red Heart. It is so squishy and soft.
It’s labeled as a #4 heavy worsted yarn, which means it’s thicker than many #4 medium worsted yarns. A comparable yarn I can recommend is Red Heart With Love.
This lovely yarn is loosely plied, which adds to it’s softness. I used a large 8mm hook also.
If you have trouble meeting gauge with your yarn and hook, just follow the simple instructions for increasing and decreasing more stitches.
This way, you can still crochet this earwarmer in any yarn and hook you have in your stash.
Stitch
This easy ear warmer is crocheted with almost all double crochet stitches. To increase, you’ll add two double crochets in the end stitches.
To decrease you will need to know the double crochet two together stitch. If the dc2tog decrease stitch is new to you, then start with this tutorial.
Materials
- 30-45 yds/27.4-41m of #4 worsted weight yarn, pictured in Roll With It Tweed in Stormy Blues*. Please note this yarn is a heavy worsted yarn, so it is thicker than some yarns in the same weight category. A comparable substitute would be Red Heart With Love.
- 8mm US size L-11 crochet hook*, if you’re unable to meet gauge with your yarn and this hook please see #2 in Notes section.
- yarn needle*, scissors, measuring tape
Notes
- Ch 3 counts as a stitch, I highly recommend using a ch 3 alternative, here’s my favorite.
- If you’re unable to meet gauge with your yarn and an 8mm hook you can still work this pattern. Using your yarn and a chosen hook, you will just need to continue increasing until you have reached the 4” width.

Teen/Sm Adult | 18.7 7.4 | 40 36.6 |

To increase the width of your ear warmer, continue to repeat the increase row-Row 6 until you’ve reached the desired width. This is helpful if you’d like to use a different weight yarn, or aren’t meeting gauge.
To crochet a different length ear warmer, it’s usually easiest to go up or down a size in the pattern. To customize the length, you can alter how man rows you crochet in the center section.
