Pocket Prayer Cloth Free Crochet Pattern

This pocket prayer cloth is the next project in my Crochet for Cancer series. I love the bobble stitch and it’s perfect for creating the cross effect.  I hope you can work a few of these prayer cloths and gift them to someone who would benefit from it.

Materials:

I Love This Yarn Mid Green (Color B)

I Love This Yarn Purple (Color A)

Hook H

Gauge:

3 1/2 sc X 4 rows = 1″

Finished prayer cloth measures 5 3/4″ X 4 1/2″

Abbreviations:

Ch = chain

SC = single crochet

(# of stitches at the end of a row)

Special Stitches:

Bobble: yarn over & insert hook into stitch to be worked, *{yarn over & pull up a loop (3 loops on hook), yarn over and pull through 2 loops (2 loops on hook)}, repeat from * 4 more times (loops on hook will increase 1 each time, end with 6 loops on hook), yarn over & pull through all 6 loops on hook, chain 1 to secure bobble.

Notes:

When changing colors, finish the stitch before with the new color. Crochet over the old color and pick it up again when needed. See my post on color changing tips for more details.

Pattern:

In Color A ch 14.

Row 1: SC into 2nd chain from hook and each chain across, ch 1, turn. (13)

Row 2: SC across, ch 1, turn. (13)

Row 3: SC in first 6 stitches, change to Color B, Bobble stitch in next stitch, change to Color A, SC in next 6 stitches, ch 1, turn. (13)

Row 4: SC across, ch 1, turn (13)

Row 5: SC in first 6 stitches, change to Color B, Bobble stitch in next stitch, change to Color A, SC in next 6 stitches, ch 1, turn. (13)

Row 6: SC across, ch 1, turn. (13)

Row 7: SC in first 6 stitches, change to Color B, Bobble stitch in next stitch, change to Color A, SC in next 6 stitches, ch 1, turn. (13)

Row 8: SC across, ch 1, turn. (13)

Row 9: SC in first 2 stitches, change to Color B, *{Bobble, SC} repeat from * 4 X, Bobble, change to Color A SC 2, ch 1, turn. (13)

Row 10: SC across, ch 1, turn. (13)

Row 11: SC in first 6 stitches, change to Color B, Bobble stitch in next stitch, change to Color A, SC in next 6 stitches, ch 1, turn. (13)

Row 12: SC across, ch 1, turn. (13)

Row 13: SC in first 6 stitches, change to Color B, Bobble stitch in next stitch, change to Color A, SC in next 6 stitches, ch 1, turn. (13)

Row 14: SC across, ch 1, turn. (13)

Row 15: SC in first 6 stitches, change to Color B, Bobble stitch in next stitch, change to Color A, SC in next 6 stitches, ch 1, turn. (13)

Row 16: SC across, ch 1, turn. (13)

Row 17: SC in first 6 stitches, change to Color B, Bobble stitch in next stitch, change to Color A, SC in next 6 stitches, ch 1, turn. (13)

Row 18: SC across, ch 1, turn. (13)

Row 19: SC across, ch 1, turn. (13)

Border:

In the first corner: *{SC, ch1, SC}, SC around, crocheting one SC in each row. Repeat * for each corner. Join with a slip stitch to the first SC and fasten off.
