How to Crochet a Nursing Necklace Pattern with Wood Ring

An easy crochet nursing necklace pattern you can diy at home. Crochet a nursing necklace for you to wear while baby nurses, or a friend who could use one.

My little one is always fiddling while nursing, so I knew this would be a great way for her to focus. I’d definitely rather have her play with this necklace than tugging on me or my hair.

Crocheting a necklace is simple. This pattern is easy enough for beginners and includes photo tutorial. You can also customize your nursing necklace to your liking.

This is a great project to work on even stitches, if you’re new to crochet. Simply made with single crochet stitches, it works up quickly. This crochet nursing necklace pattern includes tutorial links for the stitches used.

Every mama knows, that keeping little hands busy is essential to a successful nursing session. Especially, if there are other kids at home, there can be so many distractions.

I love how sturdy this yarn and stitch combo worked up. It’s not heavy but it does stay in place. The stretch allows her to pull on it with some give, which is perfect.

I made sure to choose a yarn that wouldn’t shed, if my little one wants to chew on it. Most cotton yarns are good.

The one I chose is a cotton/nylon blend. And it’s washable, always a must! I used this little ball here to create this project.

I love this yarn bowl my friend gifted me. It’s been so useful for crocheting with small balls and cakes of yarn.

Materials

• 2″ Wood rings
• Cotton yarn in your choice of color(s), sample is made with Bernat Home Maker Decor Yarn in
• Size K crochet hook
• scissors
• yarn needle

The steps

Start with a slip knot on your hook.

Insert your hook into the ring.

Slip stitch onto the ring and chain 1.

I had 29 sc. You want to keep your stitches close together. This yarn is stretchy so I wanted to be sure to make my stitches tight and close together.

When you get back to where you started you’ll begin chaining for the necklace part. I chained 74, and could’ve easily made it longer, but I was working with scraps.

Once your chain is as long as you like, slip stitch it back onto your ring.

Here you want to check that the wood ring is covered in stitches-add more right where you are, if needed.

Now slip stitch back up the chain you made for your necklace. Slip stitch in each chain until you get back around again.

Once you’re back at the wooden ring, fasten off and secure your end. First thread a yarn needle. Then sew the tail in between the stitches.

I was sure to weave my end in two different directions, crossing over to really secure it. I try to be extra cautious when making things for little ones.

And there you have it. My little one loves to fiddle with the ring while nursing and chews on it when I’m just holding her.
