Littorina Crochet Rectangle Shawl Pattern
The Littorina Shawl is an easy crochet shawl pattern. This stylish rectangle shawl features basic crochet stitches and a simple repeat that's perfect for beginner crocheters.
Materials
- #4 medium worsted weight yarn, pictured in Brava (100% acrylic; 218 yd / 199 m, 3.5 oz / 100 g); color: Seraphim (6) balls, or 1308 yd/1196 m of comparable yarn
Tools
- 6mm US Size J-10 crochet hook
- yarn needle
- measuring tape
- scissors
Instructions
- Ch 205 = 60”
Row 1. 5 dc in 6th ch (first 3 chs count as a dc), *{sk 3 chs, 5 dc in next ch} rep from * until 3 chs are left, sk 2 chs and dc in the last ch, turn. (50 sets of shells + 2 dc = 252 sts) - Row 2. Ch 3, sk 2 sts, (dc, ch 3, dc) all in next st, *{sk 4 sts, (dc, ch 3, dc) all in next st} rep from * until 3 sts are left, sk 2 sts, dc in last st, turn.
- Row 3. Ch 4 (counts as dc + ch 1), sk 1 st, 3 dc in ch 3 sp, *{ch 2, sk 2 sts, 3 dc in ch 3 sp} rep from * until 2 sts are left, ch 1, sk 1 st, dc in last st, turn.
- Row 4. Ch 3, sk 2 sts, (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) all in next st, *{sk 4 sts, (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) all in next st}, rep from * until 3 sts are left, sk 2 sts, dc in last st, turn.
- Row 5. Ch 3, sk 2 sts, 5 dc in next ch 1 sp, *{sk 4 sts, 5 dc in next ch 1 sp}, rep from * until 3 sts are left, sk 2 sts, dc in last st, turn.
- Rep rows 2-5 until you have eight reps total = 33 rows = 20.5” tall laid flat, unstretched unblocked. If you change the number of reps, stop after a repeat row 5.
Border
5 dc = shell - Since this is a lacy shell shawl, I opted not to add a single crochet border first. You can add one if you wish, but I've included pictures below to help with stitch placement.
Continue from last row, turn corner and place 5 dc in side of same row, *sk next row place 5 dc in side of next row, rep * to next corner.
Now you’ll be working on the other side of the starting chain: Turn corner and place 5 dc in first ch,- *sk the ch that has the 5 dc from row 1 worked into it, and place 5 dc into middle ch between row 1 shells. Rep from * across to next corner.
- Work up this side as in step 1, sl st to first dc to join the border round.
- Cut yarn and weave in ends.

How can you make the shawl shorter in length?
Hi Rebecca,
To make a shorter length shawl you need a stitch multiple of 4, plus 1 more. You can also subtract from my starting chain of 205 in 4s.
I hope this helps.
Best,
Crystal
