Cluster Stitch Crochet Tutorial Photo + Video

Sharing is caring!

Learn how to crochet the double crochet cluster stitch. This beautiful stitch combines the dc3tog with chains to create a cluster of double crochets.

While deep in the midst of creating the Ottobre Shawlette I used a slew of fabulous stitches. So I’ve created a series of tutorials to accompany it. Check out my previous post on how to crochet the Front Post Double Crochet Stitch.

This post covers the double crochet cluster stitch. Now, cluster stitch can refer to any type of stitch. You can see the lovely single crochet cluster stitch in this tutorial.

I’ve paired the photo tutorial with a quick video, if that’s more you’re learning style. Plus you’re getting a sneak peek of the Ottobre Shawlette with the cluster stitch in action.

If you love learning to crochet through videos (like me!) then be sure to subscribe to my channel so I can keep creating new crochet videos.

Be sure to check out my Ottobre Shawlette crochet pattern. I use the double crochet cluster stitch in this shawl pattern. It looks amazing in Berocco Modern Cotton DK Yarn.

This is one of my favorite crochet shawl patterns. The variety of stitches is so fun to work up. I’ve included photo and video support for most of the stitches too.

This is my starting swatch. You will crochet into the next three stitches to create the cluster stitch.

First yarn over and insert your hook into the next stitch you will work.

Then yarn over again and pull up a loop (3 loops on hook), yarn over and pull through 2 loops on your hook (2 loops left on your hook, as pictured above).

Next yarn over and insert your hook into the second stitch you will work.

Then yarn over again pull up a loop (4 loops on hook), yarn over and pull through 2 loops on your hook (3 loops left  on hook, as pictured).

Now in the last stitch you’re working, yarn over and insert your hook. Yarn over again and pull up a loop (5 loops left on your hook), yarn over and pull through 2 loops on your hook (4 loops on hook).

Finally, yarn over and pull through all 4 loops on your hook.

To complete the cluster stitch chain 2. And there you have it!

Another little glimpse of my upcoming shawl using the cluster stitch below. It’s the row of stitch just below the open blocks.
