How to Crochet a Half Circle

Sharing is caring!

In this post you’ll learn how to crochet a half circle. A half circle, or semi circle is so useful in our crochet projects.

You can turn these little half moons into ears for bear hats, or other features in your crochet project.

The shaping is simple to crochet a half circle. If you already know how to crochet full circles (like for a hat) then this semi circle pattern will be easy to do!

The free crochet pattern for the Tulare Bear Hat includes how to crochet semi circle ears, just like these. These little bear hats are an easy relaxing pattern that makes a great gift!

If you like working with chunky yarn, then the Chunky Bear Beanie will work. There is also a tutorial for those ears, in #6 yarn using the half double crochet stitch.

To crochet a half circle we’ll use the same method as crochet circles, but we’ll use fewer stitches and turn at the end of the row.

On the next row, we’ll use increase, where we place more than one stitch, to keep the half circle growing and laying flat.
