Emilio Easy Blanket Crochet Pattern & Video Tutorial
The Emilio is a beautiful blanket pattern that works up quickly in worsted weight yarn. Create stripes in different colors for a custom look, or a single color for this free pattern.
I love a solid fabric for crochet blankets, especially for littles. The single and half double crochet stitch come together to create just that.
The stitches are arranged so there’s just one repeat row! It’s nice and relaxing make. The edges feature basic stitches and a crab stitch border.

To work the crab stitch you simply make a single crochet working in the reverse direction. So if we normally crochet right to left, for the crab stitch you work the sc from left to right.

The yarn for this blanket
I love working with this Premier Everyday Anti-Pilling yarn. Pilling is when the little balls of fiber gather up. It’s virtually impossible to not have pilling on most yarn creations. But this yarn delivers on the anti-pilling promise!
The yarn weight for this pattern is a #4 medium weight yarn. Most of us have plenty of #4 yarn on hand in our stash to use up.
The stitch
The stitch pattern I chose for this blanket groups the single crochet stitch with half double crochet stitches, so they’re close together. The basic crochet stitches make a simple pattern that’s a quick blanket to crochet and cute to gift!
The Blanket Size
The blanket in the picture finishes up, with the border, at 34″/86.4cm long x 30″/76.2cm wide. I include several size options for this pattern below, I you want to crochet a throw blanket, or even larger.
Looking for another size blanket? The nice thing is they don’t have to be any exact size. But I include some common blanket sizes for you to choose from for baby and adults.
Materials
- #4 medium worsted weight yarn; pictured in 925 yd/846m of Premier Everyday Yarn Anti-Pilling* (100% acrylic, 3.5 oz/100 g, 180 yds/165m) colors: A snow white (1), B silver (2), C cream (1), D twilight blue (1), E steel (1), F chinchilla (1). See “Common Size + Yarn” below for yardage on other sizes.
- 5.5mm US Size I-9 crochet hook, size needed to meet gauge. I use my Furls ergonomic hook* here.
- yarn needle
- scissors
- measuring tape
Notes
- Ch 1 at the beginning of a row does not count as a stitch.
- Stitch multiple is 4.

Stripes
To achieve the same stripes:
Rows 1-4 Color A. Then change colors every 22 rows, or 7″/17.8cm, as Color B, C, D, B. Finish with 4 rows in Color A.
This works well as a scrappy project. If you don’t quite have a full skein of yarn, through in some other colors in 4 row reps to add to your length.
Colors and striping are always up to you!
Color Changing Tip
On the last yarn over of the last stitch before the color change, drop the current color and pick up the new color. Yarn over in the new color and pull through. Turn, and continue working in the new color.
You can work over your ends to help with weaving in. I usually work over them and then weave in also to secure them.

Fit/Adjustments
To adjust the width of your blanket, you can add or subtract 4 to my starting chain.
To change the length, adjust the number of rows you repeat.

How To Crochet Single & Half Double Crochet Blanket

Materials

In Color A, to crochet a
- Lovey Ch 44
- Baby (size pictured) Ch 104
- Receiving Ch 132
- Toddler Ch 144
- Sm Throw Ch 164
- Lg Throw Ch 200

- Queen Ch 332
- King Ch 400
- Row 1. Sk first ch, sc in next ch, sk 1 ch, 2 hdc in next ch, *{sk 1 ch, 2 sc in next ch, sk 1 ch, 2 hdc in next ch} rep * to the end of the row, turn. (99 sts)
- Row 2. Ch 1, sc in same st, sk next stitch, 2 hdc in next st, *{sk next st, 2 sc in next st, sk next st, 2 hdc in next st} rep * to end of row, turn. (99 sts)
- Rep Row 2.
- Continue repeating Row 2. You always work into the first stitch of each set, so you will place 2 hdc stitches in the first sc of the set. And you will place 2 single crochet stitches in the first hdc of the set. Each row will end in 2 hdc in the last stitch.
- To achieve the same stripes as the blanket pictured: Rows 1-4 Color A.
- Then change colors every 22 rows, or 7"/17.8cm, as Color B, C, D, B, and rep as needed for length.
- Finish with 4 rows in Color A.
- Longer lengths will continue changing colors every 7" as needed.
Border change to Color F. Adds 1"/2.5cm around.
- Ch 1, sc evenly around the blanket, placing a (sc, ch 1, sc) in each corner, sl st to the first sc. Cut yarn and join Color E.
- Ch 3, dc evenly around the blanket, placing a (dc, ch 1, dc) in each corner (the ch 1 from the last row), sl st to the first dc. Cut yarn and join Color F.
- Ch 1, start with a regular sc, then work the crab stitch (reverse single crochet) around the blanket, just placing 1 crab stitch per corner.
- Cut yarn and weave in ends.
