How to Crochet a Cowl for Spring (and Summer) the Trina Cowl

Sharing is caring!

The Trina is a beautiful cowl that’s lightweight and lacy. It’s perfect for spring. Make this easy crochet cowl in your favorite colors to add a splash of color to your outfit.

The Trina is the perfect warm weather accessory with its open stitch work pattern. This free crochet pattern features double crochet stitches and chains so it works up quickly.

The Trina Cowl in this pictures features Bamboo Pop in Clover. I also use this bamboo cotton yarn in my Striped Slouchy Hat.

I’ve had this little ball of yarn in my stash since then. It was just enough to design this summery cowl.

The Yarn

Bamboo Pop is a #3 lightweight yarn and just perfect for what I had in mind. For this spring cleaning pattern I use less than one skein of yarn!

I know many of us work in #4 worsted weight yarn more often and I think it would be a good substitute, if you would like to try it.

Bamboo Pop is a blend of 50% Cotton, 50% Bamboo. This pattern works well in other fibers, or acrylic yarn as well.

My green loving son is already trying to claim the Trina Cowl for his own! That’s one of the first questions my kids ask when they see my yarn creations. “Is that for me?”

He had a blast helping me remove the pins from blocking this one. It’s the little things some days.

For a true stash buster, you could combine different colors and use up what you have on hand!

If it’s cold weather where you are then try a chunky crochet cowl pattern. The Monte Cowl is a cozy cowl in contrasting colors.

The Sheila Cowl is an easy pattern made with super bulky yarn that makes a great gift! I love how quickly chunky yarn, especially Lion Brand’s Wool-Ease Thick & Quick, works up for a last-minute gift.

The Tuscan Charm Cowl is an infinity scarf so this cowl has a longer length. The stitches really pop in this design.

Notes

1. Ch 3 counts as a stitch, I highly recommend using a ch 3 alternative, here’s my favorite.

2. This cowl is worked from the short end and then seamed. To make it into a scarf continue the repeat until your scarf is the desired length.

3. The stitch multiple is 4. You can add or subtract 4 to my foundation chain to make adjustments.
