With back to school looming, my mama brain is already trying to decide what to bring that will keep the youngest busy while my older boys are at practice. Which usually means that don’t even use what I bring, unless it’s snacks those are never left over.

  Materials

Notes

  1. Ch 3 counts as a stitch, I highly recommend using a ch 3 alternative, here’s my favorite.
  2. Bag is worked in the round, joining each round with a sl st to the first st.

 Mc-magic circle or ch 3 and sl st to 1st, work into the circle.

Finished dimensions

This tote is 14” tall, and 25” with strap.

When the bag is laid flat it’s 12” wide.

Free Crochet Tote Bag Pattern | Violet Market Tote

The Violet Market Tote is a free crochet tote bag pattern. Create a beautiful bag that’s reusable, machine washable and ready for the market or a day out.

Materials

  • 360 yds #4 med worsted weight yarn, I used 2 balls of Hobby Lobby’s I Love This Cotton in Periwinkle (Color A), and White (Color B).

Tools

  • 5mm (H) hook
  • Yarn needle
  • Measuring tape
  • Scissors

Instructions

    In Color A.

    Begin with a mc.

    1. Ch 3, dc 11 into mc, sl st to first st to join. (12 sts)
    2. Ch 3, dc in same st, *{2 dc in next st} rep from * around, sl st to first st to join. (24 sts)
    3. Ch 3, dc in same st, dc in next st, *{2 dc in next st, dc in next st} rep from * around, sl st to first st to join. (36 sts)
    4. Ch 3, dc in same st, dc in next 2 sts, *{2 dc in next st, dc in next 2 sts} rep from * around, sl st to first st to join. (48 sts)
    5. Ch 3, dc in same st, dc in next 3 sts, *{2 dc in next st, dc in next 3 sts} rep from * around, sl st to first st to join. (60 sts)
    6. Ch 3, dc in same st, dc in next 4 sts, *{2 dc in next st, dc in next 4 sts} rep from * around, sl st to first st to join. (72 sts)
    7. -11. Ch 3, dc in same st and in each st around, sl st to first st to join.

      Change to Color B.

      12. Ch 4, dc in same st (first v-st made), sk next 2 sts, *{v-st in next st, sk next 2 sts} rep from * around, sl st to 3rd ch to join.

      13. Ch 1, sc in same st and in each st and ch sp around, sl st to first st to join.

      14. Ch 1, starting in the same st *{dc3tog, ch 2} rep from * around, sl st to first st to join.

      15. Ch 1, sc in top of each dc3tog and 2 sc in each ch sp around, sl st to first st to join. Cut yarn.

      16. Sk first 2 sts, join Color A to next st, Rep Row 12.

      17.-19. Rep Rows 13-15.

      20. Sk first 2 sts, join Color B to next st, Rep Row 12.

      21.-23. Rep Rows 13-15.

      24. Sk first 2 sts, join Color A to next st, Rep Row 12.

      25.-27. Rep Rows. 13-15. Cut yarn.

      Change to Color B on any st.

      28. Ch 3, dc in each st around. Do not cut yarn.

      Strap

Worked in rows.

  1. Ch 3, dc in next 5 sts, turn. (6 sts)
  2. -35. Rep last row, or until desired length is reached. 24” as written
  3. Sl st strap end to opposite edge of bag.
  4. Cut yarn.
  5. Weave in ends.

    For Row 14 you will dc3tog in the first 3 sts, then ch 2, then dc3tog in the next 3 sts, then ch2, and keep repeating that around. I hope that helps to clarify. Please let me know if you have any more questions.
