Free Crossbody Crochet Bag Pattern

Sharing is caring!

The Mercato Crossbody Bag is a free crochet tote bag pattern with a long strap to wear across the body. This bag is ideal for traveling, a day at the mercato {market}, or a playdate at the park.

The wide strap and crossbody design mean it’s comfortable, and stays out of the way, but it’s there when you need it.

Market tote bags make such great summer bag. I gifted this one to my son’s teacher, and she just loved it.

These market bags are fast, easy and doesn’t take much yarn. This is a great pattern that’s perfect for gift giving. It works great in a solid color or two different colors.

I’ve crocheted a bunch of these shoulder bags this year and gifted all of them. I definitely should make a few for myself. I always need a nice shopper ready to go in the car, or another bag to hold yarn!

Construction

The Mercato Crossbody Shoulder Bag is worked from the bottom up. We’ll start with the base of the bag which is crocheted in the round. At the end of the rounds we’ll join with a slip stitch and continue working in the same direction.

The strap is worked in rows and can be easily customized for different heights or to be a shoulder bag instead.

This is an easy pattern with a simple stitch. Half double crochets make the bottom of the bag. And we’ll work half double v-stitches on the side of the bag.

The lovely and versatile v-stitch makes it easy to hide the seam.

I love it when color changes work well with in a stitch pattern.
