The Flurry Pop Beanie a Free Crochet Pattern

The Flurry Pop Beanie a Free Crochet Pattern

The Flurry Pop Beanie is a one ball wonder using only one skein of Lion Brand’s Hometown USA superbulky yarn for the Teen/Adult size beanie, and even less for all the littles. I love the option of adding those puff stitches as color pops too. This beanie works up fast and looks amazing topped with your favorite pom!

I originally designed this beanie in the teen/adult size and was pleasantly surprised to see that my one little ball of superbulky was a perfect match! When I added the smaller sizes, I also added more rows of the puff stitch (or yarn knots as my husband coined them 😂), which looks really so fun on the kiddos.

To get the sizing just right in this superbulky yarn I opted to add more stitches than typical on some vs. changing hook sizes. So as long as you can match gauge with a 9mm hook you’re all set! Be sure to check more than just your letter size so you have the right hook. Both M & N are often labeled as 9mm! 🤷‍♀️ And of course, if you have trouble meeting my gauge then hook up or down!

Materials

For the baby size pictured below I used Fayetteville Frost* for the main color and LA Tan for the puff stitches.

hat crochet

Notes

  1. Hat is worked in the round, top down.
  2. Starting ch 3 counts as a dc. I use the term “ch 3 alt” to indicate a standing stitch or other alternative, you can see my tutorial here. I would also recommend using one of these alternative stitches to the ch 3, if you prefer.
  3. To close the puff stitch you will ch 1-this ch 1 does not count as a stitch.
  4. To change colors for every puff st-finish the st before the puff st in your second color, make the puff st, switch back to your main color for the ch 1. See my Invisible Color Change Video here.
  5. The stitch multiple is 3.
