Free Summer Infinity Scarf Crochet Pattern For Beginners
The Archwork is an easy infinity scarf crochet pattern that is simply beautiful as a drapey summer cowl. It’s crocheted with basic crochet stitches that create a lovely fabric.
The name for this free crochet pattern was also an easy one. The combination of crochet arch mesh and cotton yarn is just gorgeous.
Beginner crocheters will enjoy this easy pattern. Especially since it’s just one repeat row of simple stitches!

How can I think of open, airy patterns when the cooler temperatures in the mornings barely warm up by the afternoon?
Apparently we’re skipping spring and heading right into summer here in Northern California because it was 93 yesterday! Maybe the warmer weather is the sign to hang up the chunky yarn and pull out the cotton yarn.
But once I started, I just couldn’t stop crocheting all the crochet scarves! A circle scarf is the perfect accessory for a wonderful teacher. They stay out of the way more than a regular scarf when leaning over to help children.
You can use different stitches and different colors to suit the teacher’s personality. This series of cowls use only one ball of yarn. That means it’s a great project for any of that stash yarn you have.

Even though this easy crochet pattern is worked with single crochets and chains it works up fast. And it uses less yarn than double crochet stitches.
The Yarn
This LB 24/7 cotton yarn* is one of my favorites. It has a gorgeous sheen to it and comes in an array of gorgeous colors, from muted to bold.
They carry it in most craft stores and sometimes I can get it at a discount on Amazon. It doesn’t snag or split and it’s mercerized so it’s strong and not overly stretchy. It’s great for wearables and totes too!
My littlest was actually interested in this cotton cowl-since it wasn’t for her!

Materials
- 3.5oz/186yds (170m) of worsted weight #4 yarn, I used one ball of Lion Brand’s 24/7 cotton in Lilac*
- 5.5 mm Crochet Hook US Size I-9, or hook size needed to meet gauge.
- yarn needle and scissors
Size
My finished arch mesh cowl measures 15″ wide when stretched, and 32″ around with one ball of yarn.
Adjustments
To adjust the size of your cowl the stitch multiple is 4 + 6 for the starting chain. You can add or subtract 4 to my starting chain.
For a longer infinity cowl pattern, you might double the length. So you could Ch 206, but remember that you’ll need double the yarn!
Adjusting the height of your cowl is simply a matter of repeating more or less rows. Remember that when worn this cowl collapses down quite a bit.
Gauge:
2″/5cm x 2″/5cm = 7 sc x 6 rows of sc

A bit about this pattern:
The arches are created by chaining 5 and connecting them to the previous row’s arch with a sc in the chain 5 space of each arch. There is no need to join rounds, except to continue with sc into the next arch. I’ve included pictures and a video tutorial to show you how.
How to join Round 2 to Round 1:
This pattern lends itself to working in the round quite easily. You can just join the last chain 5 to the first space and keep working!
Work a single crochet into the chain 5 space.
Then continue on with the simple repeat.

How to Crochet an Easy Summer Infinity Scarf
The Archwork Crochet Cowl is an easy pattern of basic stitches that create a lovely fabric. Crochet infinity scarves make wonderful gifts in the warmer months!
Materials
- 3.5oz/186yds (170m) of worsted weight #4 yarn, I use one ball of Lion Brand’s 24/7 cotton in Lilac.
Tools
- 5.5mm US Size I-9 Crochet Hook
- yarn needle
- scissors
Instructions
- Ch 102,
- Making sure not to twist, sl st to the first ch to form a circle,
- Rnd 1. *{Ch 5, sk 3 chs, sc in the next ch} rep from * around, until the last 3 chs
- (Rnd 1 cont.)
Ch 5, sk the last 3 chs, - (Rnd 1 cont.)Sc in center of first ch 5 sp. (25 arches formed by the ch 5s)
- Rnd 2. Ch 5, sc in the center of the next ch 5 sp, *{ch 5, sc in the next ch 5 sp} rep from * to the end.
- Rnds 3-29. Rep Round 2 until work measures 15"/38cm tall, or to your desired height.
- To finish your cowl stop after a sc in the last ch 5 sp, then sl st 2 times to the ch sts.
- Cut yarn and weave in ends.
- Block your cowl.

The text above says it’s a multiple of 4 + 6. In the video you say 4 + 5. Could you clarify? I want to make one longer than yours. I’m using a DK Cotton when I swatched it came out the same as when I used the 24/7 cotton.

Hi Lynne, thanks for asking! It’s 4 + 6, I must’ve misspoke in the video! So if you wanted to make one about twice the length of mine, you would chain 206 to start. 206-6=200, 200/4=50 arches. I hope that helps!
