The Yarn

In order to keep this hat light, I am using Berroco Modern Cotton DK.* It’s a soft yarn that has a gorgeous sheen and comes in a variety of color choices.

I chose a neutral color and added a simple diamond pattern for a little detail. These are colors that I know the recipient really likes.

You can substitute another #3 DK / Light yarn. There are many soft baby yarns that are affordable.

  3. Diamond pattern is worked over a stitch multiple of 12.

Gauge

5 DC X 3 rows DC = 1″ / 2.5 cm x 1″ / 2.5 cm

Rnds 1 – 2 = 1.75” across.

Rnds 1 – 5 = 4” across.

Hat Measurements

Circumference: 20″ / 51 cm -21″ / 53.5 cm

Height: 8″/ 20.5 cm

Fit / Adjustments

This hat is designed for adults. It will fit a 19″ / 48.5 cm – 22″ / 56 cm head circumference.

To alter the size of this hat you can change the size of your crown circle, which is Rounds 1 – 8 in the pattern. For a smaller hat, crochet less rounds. For a larger hat, crochet more rounds. This is also helpful if you are having trouble meeting gauge.

If you change the crown size, the diamond pattern is worked over 12 stitches, so keep it a stitch multiple of 12.

To adjust the height of the hat just crochet less rounds of the repeat, which are Rounds 10 – 18 in the pattern.
